yeah looks like i'm going to be in san mig too for summer, and yeah jordan does have his bball camp at ucsb, heard it was like 600 or something per person, but you get ball and t shirt? I just got the email info about may 16th, looks like it going to be the whole day if not most, problem is i sleep in the mourning so its going to be tough driving up, staying there the whole day, and driving back. I'll probably just skip the part where you talk to ucsb students about life there. The thing starts at 8: 30 so i'll have to head out at 6:30, or maybe i should reschedule for the 30th since i will be done with my finals then.

im leaving early thursday morning and checking out downtown for the day the driving home after its over friday night :-(

I just filled out my housing application. I want to get a meal plan while living in a university owned apartment. How many of you plan on doing that?

What is the difference between each dining common besides its location? Do each have their own particular food style or is it just random? I am a fan of good Italian and Caucasian food. If there is any dining common that is good with that, let me know :)

Apparently we are required to have health insurance to attend UCSB. They also provide a UC health coverage plan if you do not have health insurance. I just thought I'd let everyone know :)

i plan on getting the 5 meal a week one, and ill probably go carillo just because it is closer to the apts

ok so who is going to the advising session on friday?

so when you submit the housing contract, say with a meal plan, do they ask you what kind of meal plan you want after you submit your contract? i think i'm going friday, hopefully it won't be a waste of time.

You plan on making food in your apartments or going out to eat?

I was thinking 10 because I could just eat out on the week ends and just grab something quick at the apartments for breakfast. When I look at my financial aid, it looks as though they will give me $2449 for food. The 19 meal plan costs $1,646. Would I be able to pay for food outside the campus with the extra money? How would they provide me with the money. I got so many questions :(

This is a better question to ask... how do they disburse the money for financial aid? If I went with a cheaper meal plan and decided to eat out up to around $2449. Would I be reimbursed for it or would they just flat out give me $2449?

i plan on making food for dinner on the weekdays....eating out on the wknds...and using my 5 meal plan thing for lunch/dinner during the week when i dont feel like cooking or something like that...i have no idea about how financial aid works although i do work at a bank and people bring financial aid checks from sac state, UC davis all the time and just deposit those financial aid checks into their accounts

i'm staying in san mig, looks like the minimum meal plan is 10 per week so i'll eat out on weekends or go home. I'm not sure if i'm supposed to circle the meal plan i want on my contract or wait until after i submit it. Meal plan is 2069 for double room in san mig. Yeah not sure how they distribute the money either. At my cc they send checks. Since its a cc you really don't get a lot compared to the CSU

I heard something like they take what is required for tuition, etc, then send you the rest. What I don't know is what exactly they take and what exactly they give. I am also wondering when they give the checks. I guess I'll call financial aid today or tomorrow :)

cool, let me know what they say

now i wish the class i had to take offered session B, that way i can get about 2 months off after my finals, then move to sb and take the week class, move my stuff from summer to fall, come home for about a week then go back,

Have you guys thought about which american history course you plan on taking. Apparently at all the UCs they require an american history course for most majors.

I am thinking about taking Women Studies 159: Women in American History.

"Social history of women in America from 1800 to 1900. Changing marriage, reproduction and work patterns, and cultural values about the female role. Attention to racial, class, and ethnic differences. Analysis of feminist thought and the several women’s movements."

or Economics 113: Economic History of the United States to 1900
"Key issues and episodes in American economic history, such as the sources of economic growth, slavery and the nineteenth century southern economy. Populism and the rise of regulation, and macroeconomic history."

Here is the list: Letters & Science Academic Advising :: UCSB Courses that Fulfill the American History and Institutions Requirement

yeah i heard them say that at summer orientation, i took a euro history class at my cc so that doesn't count. since we're transfers are we only allowed to take upper division american history courses? which are courses with 100 or more in the title

Yep. You just have to have the prereqs. You can take classes from women studies, anthropology, sociology, economics, etc. They are on that list. Pretty much most courses that deal with any part of american history, you can take. I like the idea of taking economic history in america.

Any new information for you guys?

man im having a hard time focusing with alot of my semester friends out for summer, the fact that the weather has been nice, I want to transfer NOW, etc. Anyone experiencing this too?? haha

well i was playing with the idea that i could take that history class at my cc over summer fr the first half and start session B at ucsb even though i'm taking session A right now. But that you mean driving to school 5 days a week for 5 week and gas is expensive. I wonder if there is really a big difference between summer transition and orientation? don't really feel like going to orientation but that's the only way you'll get to register for classes early since new students don't get a first registration pass. I signed up for the first august one, might switch to the july 30 one i think it is, hopefully i can skip one day of class so i won't have to drive back.

What date are you all going for orientation? I'm going August 8th. It sucks we have to be there at 7:15am. That means I have to leave at 3:00am. I really don't want to spend the night. I'd rather not waist the money >_< Hopefully driving with a friend will make it better :)

if i remember correctly doesn't it end with registering for class from like 3-6?
