What does anyone make of this? My son (and I) have been waiting and waiting on UCSC decisions, supposedly to be completed by April 30.
He is transferring from a CC, wants to major in Psych and has two other good options (UCD and UCSB).
Today May 1 he finally got a message from UCSC that they received over 1,100 more transfer applications than last year, and will have decisions posted no later than May 6. Wish they would have posted that message yesterday. I’m really curious as to why they received so many more transfer apps vs last year. And since they knew about the additional applications as of last Dec. 1, why they didn’t gear up for it?
Just hard finalizing decisions without all the pieces of the puzzle in place. And kind of makes me wonder about UCSC, in the event that he is accepted. The other two schools have “Transfer Decision Days” in May for accepted transfers to visit, ask questions, look at housing etc. I can’t find anything about a similar event at UCSC, and in fact under transfer events they still have last year’s events listed. I"m perplexed.
Poor planning, but a lot of transfers don’t get results till later May or even into June/July… but if they committed to May 1st, I see that could be annoying. Transfers are frequently treated as second class citizens it seems and endure waiting and having to register so late for everything - housing, classes, etc. Sounds like he has a couple other great choices for now!
@blueskiestoday- interesting about the 2nd class status-
At least all the other UC’s were responsive and their decisions came out well within the time frames they initially committed to. UCSB accepted him on the first day! And was very responsive when he needed to call them to clarify some things. UCD’s acceptance came right on the day they said it would. And they were also easy to communicate with and get though to ask a question.
Just wondering if anyone with experience with UCSC can shed light on this situation. Is the admissions office disorganized? Hard to get through to with questions? Just feeling bit nervous about them now.
Since all the other UC’s were done with transfer admissions by April 30, it seems like anyone waiting too much longer for UCSC will be behind as far as SIR, housing contracts, etc. While waiting for them so we can make our final decision, probably the better transfer housing at UCD and UCSB is getting snapped up.
I just feel for the kids that work hard for a year or two, then find out so late where they attend in the fall, when classes and housing are both very full. I know a lot of kids having to wait till after June 30th to hear for certain schools.
I agree, it’s very hard on the kids who are waiting in limbo. Some just wrote UCSC off and went with their other UC options and son may have to do the same. It’s a shame because he has visited there and liked it.
Admitted! as of this morning… :))
Congrats, better late than never!
@CADREAMIN thank you! My son is super grateful to have all his results in… Well with the exception of UCSD which was wait list (hasn’t decided whether to opt in yet). Now to choose.
Congrats to your son! My older son is a proud Slug - class of 2014. He had a great experience there.
I hope your son is as happy with whatever choice he makes.
