Oh. I’m not so strong in econ, so to say I have to take classes would be a failure for me lol

Well I suggest taking some Economics classes whether or not you major in it, because it is pretty important to know how the economy works >.< and also it is very interesting :D. Plus, I think it fills up the elective part of GE(I have no understandings of the GEs requirements yet lol)

My teacher pretty much sucks at teaching, so maybe thats why I hate it but I dont know. Do you have like any information about UCR’s business program? I’m looking around but I don’t see much.

Yes, a score of 4 or 5 fulfills AMS 5 Statistics.

To major in any type of econ at UCSC, you need the required “econ core classes.” This includes intro micro and macro, 2-3 calculus courses, stats. Then you need 3 upper division courses in intermediate macro, intermediate micro, and econometrics. This is just the base of the major, you still need to take courses after that to actually qualify for a degree (this can include accounting courses).

It really depends on your teacher. I took AP econ in high school and thought the subject was completely boring. Then I started taking upper division courses at UCSC and UC Berkeley and then I knew I really had a passion for the major.

GE’s are basically a broad list of classes that all the UCs want you to complete before you graduate. It’s basically like they want you to take a course from all the different areas/subjects, so you can see if something stirs your interest.

omgoshh. econ + calculus. kill me LOL. thanks for the info . Does the business mainly revolve around accounting&finance? Like does it go out to business administration & such?

Most UCs want their econ students well versed in calculus (which makes sense), so that’s pretty much a requirement at every UC. I think UCR only requires one or two calc courses though for their Business Admin or Business Econ program.

The actual business in business management economics is focused on economic theory, accounting, and some finance. It does not go into business administration though. The only UCs that offer business administration include UCB (Haas school of business-HIGHLY ranked and VERY difficult to get in), UCI (Paul Merage- very difficult to declare your major), and UCR (pretty easy to get in, not that reputable).

I HIGHLY suggest looking at a school’s offered courses to see if you want to major in that. Here is a list of every econ course at UCSC (look at numbers 1-199 only):
[UCSC General Catalog 2009-10 - Programs and Courses](http://reg.ucsc.edu/catalog/html/programs_courses/econCourses.html)

^You don’t need to take all of these courses, but I just want you to get an idea of what’s available.

hehe MidnightGolfer I got in for Pre-Business at UCB (Haas HERE I COME!). Suprisingly I didn’t get in for business admin at UCI (Economics instead).

OMG more calculus D:. I thought I had 1 more qtr left for that since I’ll be done with AP Calc AB this year D:

This really helps. Thanks a lot !

Omgosh Shibykin. Geniusss ! UCI seemed hard to get into this year. They were very selective. A few of my friends who got into like UCB & UCLA either got rejected or waitlisted to UCI. Which seemed odd. I thought the UC system this year was really random…

Haha thnx. Though if you looked at my stats. I’m lucky to even be accepted to UCI UCSD and UCB >.<. I was prepared to go to UCSC(and had no problem with it >.<)

Oh, even though you got in to the pre-business program, you still need to apply for Haas when you are a sophomore. I have friends who got in Berkeley two years ago with the pre-business major and so far 2 of them did not get into Haas (they had to declare economics instead).
I was a little surprised at UCI this year as well. When I applied to the UCs out of high school, I got in everywhere except for UCB/UCLA. My stats were decent, but now kids with a 4.0+ are getting rejected from Davis and Irvine.

Sigh i know :(. I didnt get in UCLA UCD or UCSB :/. Wasn’t too shocked though

I was looking forward to UCSB, but I got rejected =/ Another one of my friend who’s stats aren’t as that much better than mine, maybe slightly lower some how got into UCSB which surprised me. Maybe they had a better personal statement, but I dont know. I was pretty disappointed. You didnt get into UCLA, UCD, or UCSB, but you got into UCB?! That says a lot.

:(. Don’t be :), what matters in the end is grad school and getting a job. School name will only get you so far :). Plus if they get kicked out of the school or flunked out, then they shouldnt be there in the first place :)

Haha, I highly doubt she’ll drop out but yeahh. I thought the UC system was really messed up this year. Thank you Arnold Schwarzenegger. Way to destroy the education system !

Yeah, but undergrad does have a lot of impact on grad schools and jobs. I turned down UCSD in high school because I got into the 3/2 dual engineering program with UCSC and UCB. The only reason I did that was because I believed that an engineering degree from Berkeley would further my chances at an MBA at a top school. In addition to that engineering degree, my business econ degree at UCSC allows me to gain econ experience/internships for the time being.

Earlier you mentioned something about going to UCSC & taking courses at UCB. How does that work ?

UC students can take courses at any other UC over the summer (there’s also a campus-visting program that I’m not sure of). I’m currently in the UCSC/UCB program, so I took an economics course over the summer at UCB to fulfill one of my upper-division requirements at UCSC.

:/. Sigh, you guys making me more nervous about UCB XD. My friend whos going to UCSC seems like he’s gonna have a lot better time than me going to UCB :(.

Btw any1 know which dorm is better College 9 or College 10. He’s Asian and kind of wants to stay with where the asians are but not the dorm being completely asian. Also he doesn’t do drugs, or party(college parties), and doesnt plan on doing it :).
