ucsc or sfsu?

I got accepted to both, but I'm having a hard time making a decision. I want to attend ucsc over sfsu because education wise, I heard its better than csus. However, I don't really like the fact that its in the middle of no where whereas sfsu is in the city. Furthermore, if I do attend sfsu, then it might be easier to get into ucf. The downside is that I've also heard that its quite difficult to get the classes you want. Which college should I go to? Any pros or cons?

Have you decided yet? I have the same problem and the deadline is coming up! :/

UCSC is in the middle of nowhere? Really?

I’d rather be stuck in the “middle of nowhere” then having to be in the middle of worse CSU budget crisis.
Not only that, but the UC system has a great reputation.

I think I Just made up my mind lol. Let me know where you end up going. Good luck!

I actually attended both schools but 30 years ago. UCSC is the most beautiful campus in my opinion and Santa Cruz is a cool hip town with music, bookstores and the ocean. You are one hour away up hiway 1 to SF and 1 hr on a very windy road hiway 17 to San Jose. You are not in the middle of nowhere. It does require you be a self motivated learner to go there. There was no sense of competitiveness you get at the other UCs so learning is really up to you. The isolated feeling probably comes from the fact that the buildings are so separated by trees you don’t have a big view out to see lots of student out and about.

I went to nursing school at SFSU and it is a big commuter school of over 30K. Nice environment but if I had only gone to SFSU and that was my total college experience I would have been disappointed. The focus of CSU is more career oriented while UCs assume you may go on to graduate school. SFSU is in a lower area of SF so you are not near downtown, but essentially is a suburb area actually walking distance to a mall. The weather is mostly foggy and overcast on that side of SF (ocean side) while the Bay side is the sunniest.

In terms of getting classes with the CA school crunch, you will likely be waitlisted for many so you probably need to plan to be at either school longer so money may be an issue. I would go to UCSC over SFSU. UCSC did not have any pre-nursing/med majors but I really enjoyed my time there for 4 quarters before I transfered. I also went to Cabrillo College the local CC in Santa Cruz which was excellent.
