UCSC vs. CSULB vs. SFSU vs. SDSU

These are the main 4 colleges i got into and have no idea which to pick. I am undecided on a major and pretty much want to go to the best one. Any tips?

I’d suggest visiting whichever campuses you can. Santa Cruz and SDSU are two entirely different schools; I suppose someone could like both, but it’s rather unlikely.

San Diego will give you a classic big school experience with rah-rah. The three CSU campuses are in cities; Santa Cruz is more isolated but arguably the most beautiful. Long Beach and San Diego have southern California sun, while Santa Cruz and San Francisco have northern California fog. Plan on five years to finish at the Cal States. If finances are an issue, the CSUs are cheaper, but there is that extra fifth year to pay for. I think you’ll have a tougher time getting classes at the CSUs than at UCSC, but you’ll have to look at the individual school forums to see if that’s really true.

UCSC is quickly moving out of the “bottom UC” category and its rankings/academic quality is rising fast. I would choose it over all of your other options.

thanks guys! would ucsc be considered the most “prestigious” out of all 4? Also, I live in San Diego and would like to get out of here! lol any more tips would be appreciated! :)

Yes UCSC is the most prestigious and also the best academically. It is one of the smaller UC’s and that has advantages with access to professors and creating a close knit student culture, it is way smaller than the CSU’s. It has some prestige departments. There really is no comparison with the CSU’s imo. You will have more opportunities to work on projects with professors and do undergraduate research if that is applicable to your interests.

SFSU is a commuter school. SF is fun, but the school is in a dreary foggy out of the way place. SF is great but uber expensive. UCSC will be more of the college experience as well as an immersion in an academic culture.
