UCSD and UCI, same thing?

^ Hahaha you just described Irvine to a T too. Lol @ whole foods, peet’s and boba. Don’t forget to mention the froyo haha.

* well the difference between the surrounding area of UCD and UCSD is huge. Nothing all that exciting around Davis. It’s a farm. As for San Diego… *

Davis has a vibrant student community oriented town and there’s a lot of stuff to do without having to drive away somewhere. The thing that struck me both about my visits to UCI and UCSD is that while they are GREAT places to live for families, they are also not conducive to a vibrant and active social atmosphere and student community. Conversely, places like Isla Vista at UCSB are HORRIBLE for families, yet great for students.

^ agreed. Very nice.

What are you talking about…? IV is great for families… by the ripe age of 10, the children should be professional bpong players…

(I’m obviously kidding)

Froyo…Oh god freaking yogurtberry and pinkberry and lollicup. Ugh. I just can’t stand the whole atmosphere of places like irvine. I’d rather choose Cal state Bakersfield over uci.

bump 10char

Sorry, I may not be a fan of Irvine (Orange County as a whole, for that matter,) but I’d pick UC Irvine over BAKERSFIELD any day. Blech. I think we can all, with the exception of Dudemanguy, agree on that.

@dudeman: I was in Bakersfield for about 20 minutes getting gas once on the way to Fresno (another dump, I might add) and let me be clear: there are about 2 other places I would rank below Bakersfield in terms of appeal in California. Irvine is not close to being one of them. Shoot, I’m only 45 minutes from home at UCI at least. Bakersfield has a Costco and that’s about it.

UC Davis is WAY better than UCSD. WAY WAY better.

I’ve never been to Davis. Looks nice. I do love UCSD, though.

@solidblu: That’s actually debatable, CSUB > UCI is not.

Isn’t davis like an hour away from tahoe?

If so, davis is godlike

Davis is so under rated. It’s an awesome college town. Forbes ranked 19th best place to “live well.” Irvine and SD weren’t on there. haha

They are all great places. You have to at least spend a full day at each campus. Davis is a beautiful place. It has so much. It’s so much fun. Look at the yield rate for admitted students. Almost 40% of people accepted to Davis attend. SD and Irvine are have a much smaller yeild rate.

Davis is just a really cool place.

The decision is going to be hard. I don’t want to go so far!

Bumppppppp

that was a list of America’s Top Towns to Live In, not cities. that’s why san diego was not on there.

Well in the case of UCSD, he probably meant La Jolla, because thats the town they would talk about in that schools case…

UCSD doesn’t really have the “college town” feel to it once you get off campus, definitely not in the same way Westwood does around UCLA or UCSB/UCSC. La Jolla is awesome with great beaches, close to downtown SD, not overly congested, etc. However, it feels like a campus plunked in the middle of a normal suburban city. This is probably due to the campus not being very old. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great school and I love the campus (still praying I get in) but it’s not super-collegy. To me, that’s a good thing, but to each his own.

Yea guys, I meant la Jolla. UCSD isn’t in SD just like UCSB isn’t in SB. UCSD did is in a beautiful place. I hope I get in.

is that it? irvine and la jolla and that’s what you’re comparing? a beach? that’s it?

First of all, UCSD isn’t in the “La Jolla” you’re thinking of. It’s up the hill. La Jolla is down Torrey Pines Road near beach front at the cove.

UCSD itself is at the edge of La Jolla and in my opinion, it’s in San Diego itself. Geographically it just fell into the La Jolla zip.

You’re about 10 minutes away from anything, Mission Beach, Mission Valley, Fashion Valley, theaters, three or four different malls. The weather is really nice. There’s lots to do. Surf, lots of bike paths, trails. I love it here and yes I’ve been to Irvine and lived in LA.
