UCSD campus.. which of the six?

so triton… can you tell me about this order… i am picking these from 1-6) on my application…
i was thinking about ERC, Revelle, Muir, Warren, Sixth, Marshall?

I would move either Muir or Warren up to the second spot, but that’s just me. Overall, looks like you’ve got a pretty good order, assuming you’re happy with it :)

@spatel23 You say that you don’t want to write too much, yet you’ve put ERC + Revelle as your top two choices?

yeah… thats true, but i want things that focus on my career too… others just focus on history and i hate history… lol…thats kinda why…

btw. what about warren… is that a nice college?

You do know what ERC’s MMW and Revelle’s HUM writing courses focus on right? >.>

Warren has decent GEs, but its far location is its main drawback. Canyon Vista, which is Warren’s dining hall now opens at 10 AM. If you have any morning classes and want breakfast, a fridge is a must.

yah… its all writing… lol

hehe…revelle does have a lot more requirements…
i can write, im not bad… but im tired of 12 frickin years of ENGLISH… i think i already know enough english to keep me sustained for the rest of my life… lol

I guess my top choices are Revelle, Warren, and ERC… , maybe muir???

^You seem to be completely contradicting yourself. You say you don’t want to take writing classes and then pick the colleges that have a lot of them. Classes that focus on your career are the classes for your major!

@MiniatureDrone

They have some breakfast foods at Earl’s in the morning now. It’s not the end of the world.

If you don’t like writing, do not put Warren or Muir as your top choices! For Muir, you will have to take two quarters of required writing class. We already have to write an essay and it’s only the first week of school!

I’m in Warren, and so far I think its great. The GE’s seem pretty reasonable, especially for engineers. And sure the food isnt the best, but Earls is pretty good. And it is pretty far from classes, but for me that means my days exercise is done :slight_smile: But seriously, its not that far to walk. And the dorms are actually really nice. And I’ve heard that they are better than all the other colleges’. The setup is such that everyone has a corner window, and that really makes the room look nicer. All the rooms are spacious, including the triples. And the apartments are amazing. Plus the outsides are also nice. For me, the GE’s were the main selling point, but I also cared a lot about the dorms. I mean, I have to live here for a year or two, so might as well pick something nice. Goodluck!

I hope you meant that the other way around.

@spatel23
even if u live 15 min away, whatever u do do NOT live off campus your first year. trust me if you do, you will regret it. you may seem like you’re saving alot of money by living off-campus, but unless you’re the sociable type, it will be pretty hard to meet new ppl and make new friends.

just pay more and live on campus, where you will automatically meet 7-9 ppl (if in a res hall) or 3-4 ppl (in on-campus apt). trust me, do NOT live off campus.

thanks diablonecross… but actually i prefer living at home or an apartment… the reason being is well… i plan to join clubs and all… etc… and i will learn about people through there. also im not very social, so well the chances of me striking friendship in dorms is well not very high… lol… i can make easy friends though, lol…

idk… ill give it some thought though… my parents also dont want me to stay at the dorm… and i also don’t… living with other people has always been my pet peeve… i hate it… waiting in line to use the bathroom etc… and they are so filthy…

hah right now im super tensed up about a stupid outline my teacher made us do for English… (its not even an outline, but a damn essay with long bullet points… lol" but i will give it some thought…

everyone though… i dont mind writing, but id like to not take as much… thats kinda what i mean…

im not very sociable as well, im kinda shy at first, but i guess thats how everyone is. but trust me living in the dorms isnt as bad as you think it to be.

BECAUSE you are not very social, that is even more of a reason to live in the dorms. ok so u may think that since you’re gonna be living with 7-9 other ppl, then you’re suite will be dirty as hell with ppl leaving their crap everyone and not cleaning up. thats why at the BEGINNING you and your suitemates have to set ground rules! like if you make a mess, it is YOUR responsibility to clean it up, not other people’s responsibility. and you cant let everything slide, you have to be strict, thats the key to living well with other ppl.

im a first year here and i can honestly advocate for dorming in the res halls. you have the choice of choosing a single, double, or triple; i would definately recommend that you either choose double or single. double because you get a roommate right off the bat, and you two MIGHT or MIGHT NOT become close.

Singles are not bad at all. I am currently in a single and at first i thought “man all my other suitemates have doubles and triples and it feels like im the only one thats gonna be all alone, sad, and isolated and have no friends since im in a single”. THAT IS NOT TRUE. most of the time you wont even be in your room, you will probably be chillin with your suitemates in the common room or the floor lounge, or chillin with your friends outside. i mostly only used my room for sleeping. on top of that, you get more privacy and have less fear of getting crappy roommates that jack your stuff.

so all in all i still recommend you live on-campus your first year. it is WAY easier to connect with other ppl and form good friendships. TRUST ME if you live on campus (whether apt or dorm, I recommend dorm) you will not regret it. if you do live off-campus though…dont come back later in the year crying that you shoulda lived on campus (i have a commuter friend who is also a 1st year who regretted not living on-campus). just take my advice, i guarantee you wont regret it.

I agree with diablo. I’m living in a suite currently and all my suitemates are extremely close. Although i have heard of other suites having their door closed all the time, but once you get to meeting them, it’ll be fine.

I wish they would let us prop open the doors into the halls so we can meet the other suites on our floor.

hmm ill def. keep that in mind… now when u say apt. do you mean near campus or do they they have apt. in campus??

i am planning on renting a apt/ its all blue right now… but ill start thinking about it more and more…

on top of that im vegetarian (and they give vegetarian food) but im used to Indian food nad all… if you know what i mean… thats kinda why i wanna live home… and if i get an apt. im gonna learn to cook so yeah…

They have apartments on campus, but i would suggest living in res halls since its for freshmen only. You have other years to live in an apartment on/off campus.

There are plenty of vegetarian options on campus. Don’t worry.

oh i know that but im “picky and strict”… i dont eat fish, meat, eggs, garlic, onion, etc… i eat dairy products except for eggs. finally… i dont want food ot be made with “hands that have touched meat”… if you know what i mean… i im not sure if UCSD does all this but yeahhh…
