I got accepted to UCSD this year and I'm pretty set on going there. i want to ask the students from previous year when are important dates in the summer to go to SD for class registration or mandatory orientation because my parents want to book summer flight to travel so i wana make i dont miss any dates. i know class starts around 9/23 but i'm not sure if theres any orientation in july or august that we MUST go to.

There are different orientation dates- last year for ERC there were two in June and two in September- and you pick which one you want to go to. You only have to go to one.

@kingelite: yeah i saw those dates online too. I know that in UCI, they have a class registration period in July so that ppl can go and pick classes. Im not sure if thats just for the honors students there or something. so i was wondering if theres one for Sixth college as well in July or August

@jackofalltrade: on UCSD website i saw that they have a date for “enrollment for new students begin” and its on August 26 or something. does that mean like the freshmen? how did u register? online? i heard that you have like an academic advisor helping you online or something. plz explain. i reallllly appreciate it.

^Yeah, that’s when you register and you do it online. An academic advisor will give you a list of classes they recommend to take and if you have any further questions you can email them.

@Kings: Well, obviously the academic advisor will recommend classes based on your major and college. So, will I be able to change my major (to undeclared) before he/she advises me? Would they even really be able to help me then? Also, will they account for the fact that classes might fill up and give alternatives?

yeah i was gonna ask jesuis’s questions too. do classes become impacted very quickly? espeically classes like bio and chem? when is the earliest dates that we can start registering

Yes, chem 6A fills up FAST. The college writing classes and math classes in both the 10 and 20 series fill up fast as well. I’m not sure, but I think BILD 3 (bio) fills up fast too.

I don’t know when are gonna be the registration dates for freshmen this year, but for last year, registration began 08/31. Luckily, my enrollment time was on 08/13 at noon, so I was able to get all the classes I needed (chem, math, warren writing, etc.). However, for those who had an enrollment time on 09/02 and beyond and even late 09/01, they had trouble getting spots in chem and their college’s writing classes. It basically all comes down to getting lucky for an early enrollment time. You can find out your enrollment time in early August I believe via Tritonlink.

To be Honest Enrollment should not be an issue I got all my classes and the people on waitlists eventually got in DO NOT FEAR BEING WAITLISTED CHOOSE THE CLASSES YOU WANT BECAUSE taking a horrible professor is a bad move and you get stuck with him/her for the rest of the quarter.

^I waitlisted for a class I didn’t get into and I was waitlist #1! Anyway, I also want to make people reconsider what they call a horrible professor. Just because a professor’s class isn’t instantly full doesn’t mean they’re horrible. What I generally do WHEN POSSIBLE is to attend multiple lectures for the first few classes to see which professor I like better. And honestly, I’ve had cases where I’ve liked a professor that had a “sad face” on ratemyprofessors over one that had a “happy face”. Just something for everyone to think about.

@JeSuis

Yeah. Even if you don’t change in time, you can still email them and they’ll help you.

oh my goodness. so it totally depends on luck on when ur enrollment day is gonna be? can it be changed once it is decided? cuz it would suck if someone can’t get his/her classes because of luck xD

^It’s random just for Fall Quarter freshmen year. And you’ll VERY likely be able to get four classes that you need even with a late signup time.
