UCSD Colleges, Muir, Marshall, etc.

lol SJSU Wants me to send my letter of intent by March 24.. isnt that a little early? lol

I'm skeptical of Russiangirl's link. It says for Marhsall, "If you use IGETC, you need to complete 2 six-unit lower-division courses from the "Dimensions of Culture" (DOC) series."

But check this out: http://marshall.ucsd.edu/pdfs/GE_SHEET.pdf
It says in this document that IGETC covers the DOC requirements for Marshall.

I'd stick with the GE_SHEET.pdf.

Also, does anyone have any word on the transfer dorms? I heard that they ran out of funding so construction pulled out, but that is more or less a rumor.

suwaifo: i haven't heard anything about that, but if its true.. that sucks! :(

Transfer dorms renderings look nice.
UC San Diego Future Housing - The Village at Torrey Pines, West

Omfg that looks awesome

Any info/comments about ERC?

those dorms look pretty amazing. all the more making me wanting to get accepted !!!!!

Which college you are in doesn't matter UNLESS you are in revelle or roosevelt (2 Rs).
The only difference between the colleges is freshman/soph dorms (we dont have to worry about that) and GEs.

But even then, it doesn't really matter.
Why?

If you complete IGETC, you wont have to worry about any of their GEs (other than the 2 Rs) after u get in. Roosevelt and Revelle require more GEs even if you have IGETC. Chances are as a transfer you'll be living off campus anyway so no sort of camaraderie with people in your college or what not...

and also

you CANNOT change colleges once you get in.

If i had known that UCSD offers housing to transfer students now, I would have applied there. Darn. lol

I would really like to know if this is going to be done for fall 09. I talked to a counselor there like 4 months ago and she said it would not be done for fall 09...but that website says it will.

Can anyone confirm?

I drive by there everyday. No way is that thing going to be finished by Fall 09...

It would take some serious overtime on the part of the construction company to come even close to finishing...

Thanks for the info. Guess I defiantly won't be going to UCSD then.

why would that housing project have so much influence on if you go to sd or not ?

Seriously, it's cheaper to live off campus.

yeah, it's definetely cheaper to live off campus, that's what i'll be doing no matter where i go.

suwaifo, this is straight from University of California Systemwide Home and I have also done a research, basing my decision on other popular websites:
Transfer student general education requirements:
1) Thurgood Marshall College:

· 40 percent choose majors in biology, the physical sciences, mathematics, and engineering; 35 percent select majors in the social sciences; and 25 percent pursue majors in the humanities and fine arts areas.

IGETC :
· Accepted as total completion of lower-division GE requirements if certified by your last community college
· Minimum of 15 4-unit upper-division courses, 2 of which must be noncontiguous to the major

2) Warren:

· About 30 percent of Warren students are engineering majors, 20 percent biology, 10 percent economics and 5 percent political science, showing a definite dearth in the arts. Those statistics are something that Adler said he wants to see change.

IGETC :

· No additional lower-division courses are required.
· Minimum of 15 4-unit upper-division courses, 2 of which must be noncontiguous to the major

3) Muir:

IGETC: (Intersegmental General-Education Transfer Curriculum)
Completion of the Intersegmental General-Education Transfer Curriculum fulfills most of the academic requirements for Muir College. Once at Muir, IGETC students must complete Muir College Writing 50 or 125, one course in the diversity of U.S. culture, and eighteen upper-division courses. Completion of IGETC must be certified by the community college before the student begins the first term at UC San Diego. Note that many colleges do not automatically certify your IGETC when they send a copy of your transcript. You are likely to need a separate certification form to be sent from your community college's advising office to UC San Diego Admissions. Please check with your community college as to the appropriate procedure to follow.

· Accepted as total completion of lower-division GE requirements if certified by your last community college
· Minimum of 18 4-unit upper-division courses, including upper-division major requirements and 1 upper-division writing course

4) Sixth:
IGETC :
· No additional lower-division courses are required.
· Minimum of 15 4-unit upper-division courses, including the upper-division Practicum Communication requirement ( link to details). Additional upper-division course(s) may be required

These were my top choices.

I got into Marshall. yay.
