Reading old threads some people have posted that it is possible to "trade" colleges with another admitted applicant that is not going to ucsd (but obviously hasn't declined admission yet). Is this at all true?

Hey I believe this is true. I tried calling UCSD today from Canada to confirm; however the campus said it was closed even though I called at 10AM.

Anyways, if anybody is interested would you like to trade colleges with me?
I have SIXTH COLLEGE and I want to go to REVELLE :D. Plz PM

What’s your reason for wanting Revelle? It’s pretty GE heavy, and the dining hall sucks (lol).

You can apply to switch only after you finish your college’s writing course and you can prove that you will graduate sooner in doing so.

Adamantoise: hey, I’m an international so I don’t know other people’s experiences and thoughts about the colleges. But what is GE anyways?

I’m just really concerned if the college we attend to will affect the major we plan to follow in the future. For example on the site Sixth is known for theater and arts. But I plan to follow the chem major; will the college I go to have a negative impact? Also I want to be around people who are interested in the same major as I am.

It definitely would not have a negative impact… And as for the people issue, I actually know more people who are doing sciences (chem and bio especially) who are in sixth than people who are in revelle. Of course, that’s just from the people I know. This just really means that your college has almost no bearing on your major. After all, even you yourself is interested in chemistry but they placed you in Sixth instead. There’s plenty of other students in the same spot as you.

@Thuynh Honestly, the college you choose to live at matters for only three reasons:
- GE requirements
- Location of the dorms
- Quality of the dining hall
Unfortunately, number 2 and 3 aren’t ideal for sixth. However, Revelle’s dining hall is possibly even worse than Sixth’s, so you wouldn’t be doing yourself any favors by transferring there. If you really want better food simply walk to another dining hall. Either way, none of these factors will significantly affect your UCSD experience. A significant portion of UCSD consists of science majors and you will find them regardless of which college you attend.

I dont think it’s possible to trade colleges. As “justmyview” said, theres not many reason to want to trade colleges other than his three reasons. In fact, i would think the only factor is the GE requirements. People get sick and tired of the food anyways no matter where you are and the location isnt that big of a deal. (A little exercise doesnt hurt anyone)

I got into revelle!!! But i’d rather go to 6th college omg switchhhhh pleaseee

Thuynh!!! SWITCH WITH ME LOL :P

Hi everybody.
Thank You for all of your replies. My stress level has totally dropped; I am actually happy that I am going to Sixth.

Russii: sorry mate, but I’m going to have to stick with Sixth ;)
