j2kenned, thanks for the info man.

I just got rejected @ UCLA yesterday so I’m pretty bummed out but your post made me more optimistic about attending UCSD. Hopefully the program turns out to be what you describe it to be.

For those who are interested in Econometrics, UC Irvine DOES offer a quantitative economics and econometrics major…

5 econometrics courses… if you’re counting…

i just did some research and i found that UCSD econ department ranks top 15, up there with teh ivys. It seems liek it is the 2nd best (behind CAL) econ department in california. Also my ucsd friend (senior) says that ucsd econ department is really good (not so much information science). yea im ucla pending but im a lot more optimistic about attending ucsd now

I agree with UCSD econ program being one of the top programs.
But econ rankings tell me that it is not better than UCLA econ program.
If the rankings have changed, please correct me.

you couldn’t be more wrong. First off, you need to take Micro and Macro for any econ/finance/management major. Second, Management Science is just a beefed up version of Economics. In addition to the classes for pre-reqs in Economics, you need to take Linear Algebra and Financial Accounting.

With that said, Management Science is more geared toward a management position and more geared toward an MBA. While you can get an MBA with an economics degree, Management Science is a more rigorous degree and will get you more noticed by employers.

UCSD is very good for economics.

hey, if I am choosing econ as a major then what college would best fit that major. I am thinking muir is my number one option, what would follow or what would you guys suggest? thanks. sorry I didn’t realize this was transfer thread, but I am going to be an undergrad freshmen
