I put Revelle first & then Sixth, but I honestly just randomly ranked them without thinking of their prior to my app. Oops! They say there are additional math courses to fulfill under Revelle? I’m not in STEM but I’m pretty good with calculus & physics courses… I just want to avoid math “theory” courses at this point.
@phil067 I also applied to UCSB, UCD, and UCB! Got accepted to UCSB so it feels good! I’m tempted to go to UCSB since it has many good looking people and I enjoy a good social scene :P.
@thinkweism i understand, are you in the humanities or social sciences?
@bigvoot plus it’s a very good school academically too. hope you get where you want to go!
eleanor roosevelt was my first choice because i really love that feeling of international-ness and studying about that kind of stuff and i hope to double major in international studies. i genuinely want to take their GE courses (making of the modern world).
i think warren was my second choice because it lets you have a little concentration/minor thing within its GE thing. but at the same time i really don’t want to be in warren because the name sounds kinda ugly and i dont want to be near engineers (even though my main major is physics, im just tired of all the bro culture).
i think 3rd i put john muir? or revelle? idk. but id much prefer one of those than warren lol.
it doesn’t really matter much though since transfers (if they stay on campus) get to stay at the village, which is next to ERC lol. (another reason i would prefer to be ERC). it matters for GE purposes of course but not much for location. but i do want a college with a nice name though! and a nicer reputation than “stinky engineer bros”
@phil067 I would say so, history is my alternate major (Art History is my major, which is situated in Sixth? haha, I wish I had read more about the college system beforehand). But I read that the rigorous curriculum of Revelle might come in handy? I intend to go to law school after I graduate.
I honestly don’t mind which one I get placed in to at this point, so long as I get in.
@otoribashi Do the engineers at SD really have a “bro” atmosphere to/around them?
BRO atmosphere?
Yo, I chose ECR as my first choice too! @otoribashi I liked that it was close to the village and the look of it, as well as the international aspect. I think I chose Sixth as my second choice because I heard they had a good transfer community there.
@thinkweism i honestly don’t know but the people at the nearby community college sure do, and i want to stay as far away from those people as possible
i kinda heard that they do a little bit but can’t remember from where, it might have been from a joke but you know there’s always a tiny bit of truth in humor. might have been more of a “nerds that don’t shower” kind of thing but it’s basically the same thing
@doihaveashot2016 those were my reasons too ! i regret not choosing sixth as a 2nd -4th option (i think i placed it 5th). but i didn’t want to take a fine arts class. would love to take a music or theater class but fine arts is just so expensive and not really my thing. though it’s always nice to try new things, so i regret not choosing it. i didn’t know about their transfer atmosphere though, that’s good to hear. i heard that their college is in the more nature-y part of campus ? (but i think the village has the best view and is closest to the beach )
@itskelvinn Math/CS I believe. I really do want to be admitted for just CS though as I heard they get priority in CS classes.
@otoribashi Maybe the truth in that they let loose after their hydrology final or electronics lab? Haha. I think engineering students are totally different in CC versus UC/CSU, especially since the final years are the toughest work. I can’t imagine too many of them being party animals, especially perusing through some of my boyfriend’s old classwork & texts from CPP. If UCSD is anything similar to that, I think the only partying that would be happening is celebrating the end of a stressful quarter.
I’ve seen engineering students in action, even the bunch that were always up for having a good time throughout the week. School > breathing, basically. (I don’t envy future engineering students and prospects - good luck, haha.)
I’m not really down for a fine arts class either, but it sure beats math or science for me! Whatever it takes to graduate, am I right? I read about the transfer stuff here: https://sixth.ucsd.edu/student-life/transfer-students.html if you’re interested! And yes it is, I stumbled into it while I was on my self-guided tour and found it to be such a nice change of scenery from the rest of campus. I have yet to see The Village, but it sounds nice! Who wouldn’t want to live close to the beach? @otoribashi
@thinkweism agreed - 11 days…
im taking a tour this week, so if anything stands out ill let all of you know
I go to ucsc rn but I hope to get accepted to ucsd as they have my major… and I just miss my home san diego :-S
Our CC gpa won’t transfer?
No. It only transfers over if you transfer to a CSU, according to my counselor. I was so disappointed when I heard that! @lexluther96
@phil067 are you going on the tour this Friday?
@AdamA I recently spoke with a current ucsd math/cs major, and he said that he never had any issue registering for his cs classes. Basically, as long as you have CS classes in your major, you will get a spot
I am actually considering math/cs as a back up plan myself, but it would sure be nice to be accepted for pure cs
@thinkweism probably a little more bro atmosphere than at cal, but the environment is still pretty cutthroat (at leat within cs). From what I heard, people would rather die than share their notes, wisdom, etc.
@ald6191 Saturday. I would’ve gone on friday, but i have a class during the middle of the day. Have you visited yet?
