UCSD is in close proximity to biotech, financial, and medical businesses and operations. The streets roll up at night. The village of La Jolla has night life which is dominated by tourists and the nouveau riche.
SDSU is the party school, and is 30 min away, but it is also a magnet for local hoodlums and a lot of stuff pops off at frat parties and such.
I cannot speak specifically to the weekend atmosphere of UCSD but where there is a will there is a way, and the school has been in existence too long for students not to have figured out how to have the “college” experience.
@blackonyx I have applied as a transfer from UC Merced. I got into UCSB for Computer Science but am waiting for the rest of the decisions to come out. Are you transferring from a UC?
I’m already a socially dead person so I feel like that won’t bother me. I visited a friend there on Thursday and it was so quiet and no one was really talking to one another. They were mostly just on their phones. But that’s just what I saw and it could be a different vibe. I just didn’t see it lol
@Orangered123 I’m worried about it being socially dead. That’s actually the biggest drawback for me. I want a fun yet stimulating college experience and am afraid UCSD won’t be able to provide me with that, especially since I have never wanted to and don’t plan on rushing.
It’s not that I want to get black out drunk every night, I’d just like for college to be a lively, exciting, and social atmosphere, and to make amazing and wild memories that I’ll forever look back upon fondly!
I have several friends who went to SD as freshmen and were afraid of it being “socially dead” but they’re all having a blast (but then again, they’re either in team sports or in a fraternity).

@blackonyx Was reading UCLA thread, and someone called the admission officer or something and they told that the decisions were going to be posted on Wed 26th or something.
@Panitaispretty I don’t see why an institution like UCLA would lie to distract us haha. I don’t mind waiting, besides UCSD’s admission decisions come out this friday right? I’ll wait on that!
