UCSD Fall 2017 Transfer Thread

Aaaanyway, (hopefully) tomorrow is the day! 8->

@bugajsk that was exactly my point. People are disagreeing and everyone is freaking out and telling each other to calm down. I’m saying we should disagree and discuss these subjects instead of immediately shutting them down. I’m saying people are too sensitive here

@itskelvinn ahhh gotcha, yeah I’m all for chaos. That kumbaya BS gets old.

The disagreement was on the basis of being critical (and incredibly rude) of who was being accepted into other UCs. You can discuss the criteria of each admissions office or campus without trying to drag down others who might not have impressive stats or GPAs. You can make your point without deliberately singling out other people on this board to try and make them feel guilty and/or bad for their grades and course work.

Some of y’all are being obtuse about this entire thing.

On another note, I’m curious: what county/area is everyone trying to transfer from?

I’m trying to get into SD because I deeefinitely need a change in environment from the desert.

@thinkweism I agree. Maybe it’s because I went to private catholic schools most of my life, but I have patience with ignorant people. I don’t blame them for their ignorance and I open my arms and embrace them with the power of truth. Haha

@thinkweism SD is a desert though. I’m coming from 15 minutes away from La Jolla. CCC

@thinkweism What desert? I moved from Chicago 3 years ago to Victorville and it sucks. I was able to focus on school though lol

@bugajskj I never said that I’d look down on somebody just because of their GPA, and I did not say that GPA is what get you jobs. Of course job experience is much more relevant for employers to consider than GPAs. All I was saying is that colleges need to keep being selective to be exclusive enough to give you an edge in job searching and career opportunities. I didn’t say that it’s fair to select students solely based on GPA but the reality is that’s how most UCs operate as of today. Maybe they can be more dynamic in the future but as of right now a high cut off GPA is what makes these schools prestige. I work 30 hours a week and go to school full time. I finished the UC 60 units requirement and more in 3 semesters while keeping a 3.83 GPA. And my CC is known for tough courses. Note that transfer to a UC is much easier than getting in as a freshman in the first place.

Exactly. You guys are acting like the “critique” or disagreement was actually constructive. This stays online, someone in the future with let’s say a 3.5, etc is going to see it and believe they don’t deserve the spot they’re given or don’t deserve even the chance of applying when everyone’s life, experiences, challenges, etc are different. It isn’t “kumbaya.” It’s being humble enough to know that no one is better than anyone else in terms of what they’re bringing, they may be bringing different things to the table. None of us are in the application review room with the board of admission, so none of us can judge whether someone “deserves” to get in or not. Just my two cents…

Lol, you don’t know desert unless you’re coming from the Low or High Desert.

But @bugajskj! I’m also in Victorville, though I moved from Pasadena. VVC represent! Haha

Since when is San Diego a desert? I live right where UCSD is and to get to the “desert” part of San Diego you have to drive at least 40 mins to an hour or so on freeway heading straight inland. Isn’t San Diego known for having the best weather nationwide? Haha.

@thinkweism VVC in the house! Yeah this place is brutal up here…ready for 108 degrees + ? VVC is cool though, it got me to where I needed to go.

@thinkweism I’m from cow land Beaumont yall!

@LynAmmo loved ur 2 c… lol… can’t stop laughing … @itscalvinn that’s what I said … if you have nothing nice to say… just don’t say anything … I have 4.0 gpa… but I don’t think think I am better than 3.2… my cousins has 3.2 … man o man… she is amazing … such a productive human being …

@LynAmmo I don’t need a lesson from you in being humble, I was actually defending the stance for the lower GPA students. With that being said this is a forum, people can voice their opinions here. If someone sees this post and is discouraged…i don’t even know what to say to that hah. People have the right to voice their opinion, and others have the right to respond. That’s what the “kumabaya” means. Your level of sensitivity is different than others. If someone can handle it and have a conversation about it, I don’t see the issue with that.

@LynAmmo I think you are being a little extreme on the topic here. UCSD’s cutoff GPA was usually around 3.30-3.53 (waitlist included) so by all means a 3.5 GPA student have a very, very good chance to get in. My arguments weren’t really destructive as students need to realize that a higher GPA will help them more than anything to get in these UCs (LA and Berkeley being exceptions). In reality you don’t see a lot of 3.0s, 3.1s getting admitted by UCSD at all. Now there of course will be outliers but people need to realize that generally having tons of unnecessary extra curriculum or amazing personal statements aren’t gonna help them get in. The time is better spent on achieving a higher GPA if they can. I don’t see how that’s destructive. Giving false advises is destructive. Spilling the truth isn’t. I didn’t say that it’s right to judge people on GPAs but if you look at the official UC admission matrix UCLA and UCB are the only two schools doing holistic reviews as far as I know. This was confirmed by an admission officer at UCSD recently to me as well. The rest all select solely based on GPAs. Those are official words and personal experience or opinions really don’t outweigh them.

@bugajskj… lynammy didn’t talk about you… she was talking to frkfr93…

And here’s the link to the matrix. It’s the truth. Not alternative fact or fake news. http://admission.universityofcalifornia.edu/counselors/files/transfer-admission-matrix.pdf

@zsshar it does not matter, people can voice their opinion wether she likes it or not. He’s not insulting anyone, the guy is giving his theory (although debatably wrong) on why the UC’s should be more selective. I didint see him call anyone stupid or insult anyone, fair play.
