UCSD Fall 2019 Transfer Thread

@tinedancer @eugenium UCLA and UCB are poppin, lol. Looks like the UCSD thread never really picked up steam, I guess.

because UCSD hasn’t posted any decisions yet and most people know that they won’t post it anytime soon (meaning this week).

eh!!! showing some love for UCSD. I only applied to UCLA , Berkeley, and UCSD. Go Tritons.

UCSD released last year April 29th I believe.

@willowstil Because Berkeley interviewed some students. Not sure about UCLA

Yes, SD has moved to the bitter end along with Berkeley and UCLA. Although the last several years admissions regurgitated a few admission notices in early March and then dead silence until the end, which created unbelievable torment to those waiting. UCSD’s admission notice dates got more in line with Berkeley and UCLA after they dumped TAG. I think it’s a play to run with the big dogs.

Oh to be a fly on the wall during these strategy meetings.

UCSD would most likely have more notoriety if they have Division 1 sports, basketball and football teams.

@Ohm888 / Moderators: I think I just accidentally flagged a post on here. My bad ??‍♀️

@StudentAgain, I looked through the log and didn’t see anything. The responses, if any, come from higher up, but I think nothing got flagged.

Hello Everyone! I am currently stressing out due to a new dilemma that I just found out about. I am a CSU to CC to UC transfer, and I applied for the fall 2019 term. However, after speaking to a UC representative from my CC I found out that the 1st required English Composition course I took at my CSU will not transfer over to most or any UCs. This completely caught me off-guard since my CCC guaranteed me,essentially, that this course was fine and it would transfer over. Now I am stuck re-taking the English 1a course here at my CC when I already took the 2nd English requirement. I know that UCs are strict on taking courses in sequence, but I was under the influence that everything was fine. Is there anything I can do at this point?

@Ohm888 thank you for checking !

UCB just interviewed students for Haas (and maybe some other programs I don’t know about) and people were arguing about the importance of i terviews and liklyhood of admittance if you weren’t selected for an interview.

UCLA is poppin rn bc people still aren’t sure when the decisions will be posted. 2 teams seem to be debating the most. Some think April 24 and some think April 18, so everyone is trying to mentally prepare for a huge weekend.

GoT, Avengers Endgame, Cal, and UCLA potentally all at the same time. It’s gonna be a crazy weekend for my emotions no doubt haha.

@Trashception Anyway you can email UCLA admissions next week and find out for sure the acceptance date :)?

@bruins8clap I wish! When I called they said “before the end of April.” People are trying to make estimates based off of previous yrs, but its all hornswaggle. Its just a few days difference anyway but still, having an exact date is really nice.

Question, I was on the campus yesterday just checking the place out and it was uncomfortably crowded…I was surprised. I’d heard that this school often seemed dead. But there was a lot of activity and there was music and food with long lines near the student center and long lines in the food court. The pathways were also pretty packed between classes and I can’t imagine anyone being able to comfortably ride a bike through it all. Does it usually feel so crowded or might it have just been due to the tours and the first week back from spring break?

I checked out UCI and UCSB but at different times of the day…UCSB was very empty and quiet on Monday from 5-6pm and UCI had a lot of students walking to class first thing in the morning Tuesday but it was not packed by any means…it was absolutely empty while everyone was in morning class.

@kristinpete hi my sister went to UCSD and she said that people call it socially dead because of the parties. UCSD is a huge campus and their frat and sorority houses are spread throughout the area, while UCSB is all in one street/area making it easier to find. It’s not literally socially dead on either of the campuses so you just caught one at a bad time.

@kristinpete when I toured UCSB with my younger daughter, it was bustling with tons of students riding bikes in both directions getting to classes. This was about a year ago mid-morning. The cyclists have the right of way and pedestrians, if they want to cross, have to wait for an opening and run across the street!

Hello all. I know most of you are waiting on decisions with bated breath. I just wanted to share with you that I’ve formed a facebook group called “UCSD Transfer 2019”. I highly recommend joining once you receive your admission letter. In past years, these groups have been good for getting information, finding housing, and most importantly finding friends.

About myself - I am a 2016 PoliSci transfer from Foothill College. I am completing my double major in Political Science and International Studies: Economics this year, and will be completing my masters in International Affairs next year at the School of Global Policy and Strategy through one of UCSD’s many contiguous master’s programs. I am an RA at The Village, where most transfers living on-campus will be housed. Currently, I am preparing my applications to law school and/or business school for Fall 2020. I would be happy to share resources and provide advising for anything I have expertise in.

@kristinpete from my experience its not typically overly crowded. Most of my time spent there has been centered in the engineering dept and the Dr. Seuss library (Geisel library) and crowded days do happen but I have typically been able to bike around. Especially considering its almost $800 for a parking pass, I find parking off campus and biking in a solid option.

@CAtransplant. We had the same experience at UCSB trying to cross streets in between all the bicycles.
