UCSD Housing Questions

Hi Guys,
I had a few questions about housing since i plan on living at "The Village"

Rates for the 2012-2013 Academic Year:
•Double rooms: $10,166 - includes $2,260 dining plan
•Single rooms: $10,966 - includes $2,260 meal plan

If i wanted a double room does that mean ME AND MY ROOMATE need to pay 10,166 EACH or 5,088? That seems kinda outrageous seeing as a single is only 800$ more.

So an academic year is considered from Sept 22, 2012 – June 15, 2013. That is approximately 8 months for about 8,000 dollars so about 1,000 a month. How does this compare to offcompaus housing? I know the dining plan at UCSD sucks =(. Does anyone have any information on housing why they like it/dislike it?

You both pay $10,166.

i hate teh dining plan. i wish we could just buy half of the amount they force us to buy.

and i think (excluding the dining plan), the on-campus living cost is about the same as off-campus living–assuming that you don’t have room mates off-campus (if you have room mates off-campus, it’d be considerably cheaper).

I actually have little problems with the dining plan. I wish we could choose how much to buy, but because I’m small and eat rather sporadically the traditional buffet dining hall wouldn’t be an upgrade for me. My bigger friends get two portions and I sometimes help them pay for the second part.
