UCSD or Carnegie?

apparently i have the memory of a goldfish, i noticed that he hadn’t posted in a while but forgot all the prior hubbub.

i have the same exact problem, i visited them both and i still am confused
but what i did notice was there did seem to be a lot more intellectual people at CMU
and well you can compare public v private all you want but its up to you
to choose the priorities with $$$, location, class size, etc…
CMU was cute cause it was a college town, and i think you can still have fun there cause the whole town is built for college kids;(im still kind of worried though coming from southern cali)

everyone says its a good experience to try out the new culture/ what not, and remember you can always transfer out; most people that know about colleges and i have talked to lean towards carnegie (my closest friends say san diego)

me or that hs2009 person ?

Hmm, Carnegie’s weather is usually humid/cloudy/rainy while UCSD is right next to the beach with good weather and in a nice place (la jolla). UCSD is also more asian populated and you’ll have an easier time visiting friends/family. However, if you want prestige and an easier time graduating and can afford it then go to Carnegie. Carnegie should have the better math program though. It seems to me that you’re leaning towards UCSD though.

HS2009, I actually thought many of the people at UCSD were pretty skinny. I’m 6’1 and 150 pounds, (maybe 160 now) and I consider myself fat. But I guess everyone sees things a little differently.

UCSD haters can suck my pickle lol

GO TRITONSSSSSS

im trying to choose between carnegie and ucsd for a major in chemE if i go to carnegie and biotech at ucsd

why should i choose ucsd over carnegie
(other than i am only a 2 hour drive from home which is also by the beach)

Honestly, unless cost is an issue, I would choose CMU.

However, when I was considering schools, cost was my primary issue seeing as that I’m not getting parents’ support.

However, neither choice is bad–it just comes down to preference as both will prepare you well for any post-bac opportunities.

is there a specific reason you say CMU?
and did you go to one of the schools before/know any alumn/current students?

Well, it’s not Pittsburgh, but I visited PSU-UP and loved the East Coast. CMU is a strong engineering/science school and is at/slightly-above UCSD in terms of reputation in this regard. One of my neuro professors went to CMU for his post-doc and described it as being a liberal arts-y college, which (now that I’m passed that party stage) sounds great.

you liked the east coast better than california/were you glad you went out of state?

oh and i forgot to add ** you are an alumn from UCSD?
how come you didnt enjoy it as much/ would recommend me to go to a diff school?

I’m from LA

I’m a student in UCSD

I’m poor

meaning you’d rather have gone somewhere else if you had more $$$?

Yeah prob.

you just dont like it at SD or rather have gone out of state?

This was all a priori college.

not to sound like an idiot…but elaborate?
