Hello everyone. I got accepted to UCLA for economics and UCSD for managerial science; I am waiting on Cal, but I know for sure I do not want to go there. Also got accepted to UCD, UCI, UCSB, UCR, UCSC, but just applied to those for kicks. I am wondering if it is stupid to choose UCSD over UCLA. I prefer the atmosphere of UCSD, I have many more close friends at UCSD, and just feel more enthusiastic to go there. My folks however want me to go to UCLA or Cal (I have not yet told them I have gotten accepted to UCLA, because I might lie to them and say I got rejected to bring them to accept me going to UCSD). I heard there is not much of a difference when you go to graduate school as long as I went to UCSD, UCLA, or Cal (I plan to go right after undergraduate). They probably want me to go to UCLA, which is close by home since I just turned 18 and they have that parenting mentality still. I believe they will think I will become second rate if I go to UCSD instead of UCLA or Cal, but in the end it doesn't matter what college you go to as long as its in the top handful and even then it still doesn't guarantee you will be successful... I know ivy league people who were stuck up and conceited who ended up working for even people who graduated from UCR of the same graduating year.

Ravenpower-First-CONGRATULATIONS on getting accepted to UCD,UCI,UCSB,UCR,UCSC and UCLA! Second-a question—is it ok to lie to your parents and not tell them of the acceptance to UCLA?

I was thinking kind of the same thing minus the whole lying to my parents thing. I just don’t know if UCLA is the right fit.

If you plan to go to grad school right after undergrad, I doubt it matters. But if you want to a good job straight out of undergrad, then prestige would play a big role. Just work hard and do well during your undergrad years and you will make it to grad school anywhere you go.

Go where you will be happiest, where fits you. In terms of prestige, UCLA and UCSD are not that far off from each other.

dear ravenpower: i got into both as well and im going to UCSD.

i know UCLA is more prestigious but i honestly dont care, i’m only getting my BA at ucsd.
plus, i have lived in LA all of my life and i would live at home to go there. I feel like i need a new start and need to get out of my element. After UCSD i hope to come back to LA or USC for my masters.

Man you guys make me feel better about getting rejected for Biz Econ.

Go to where you’re happy and where you’ll do well in college…UCSD!

Go to where your heart desires. It’s definitely smart to get out of your element for a couple of years and to grow and become more independent. I know my dad wanted me to go to UCLA but I got rejected for biochem. I was a little bummed but UCLA wasn’t even in my top two. I guess I wanted an acceptance for bragging rights haha. But I’m waiting for Cal still which is my top choice. I got into UCSD which is my 2nd!

So spread your wings a little and get out of LA. LA will always be there if you decide to move back.

Hope this helped :)
