UCSD Overnight Event

Does anyone who has attended care to share the experience?
And, is anyone else planning to go and why or why not?

Is this the overnight that’s targeted to “under represented minorities” who were admitted?

I’m Latino and never received an invite. I think it’s a good opportunity for those who are invited though.

The SIAPS Overnight Program is sponsored by UCSD’s SPACES (Student Promoted Access Center for Education and Service) and is a 3 day - 2 night experience, where new admits follow a current student (usually those who live on campus). This year, the program is from April 8-10. This program is primary aimed at students who are not as privileged at going to college (this can include any race). The new admit get to experience a typical day at UCSD by going to the classes the current student has, go to the dining halls, sleeping over at the on campus housing. The whole point is to let new admits have a feel of the campus and how it feels to be a UCSD student.

I have never personally attended this program, but I will be an overnight host this year :D. There is no harm of coming if you were invited. It’s free and there is no obligation to come to UCSD. In fact, you will probably benefit from this experience and you even get to learn about OASIS Transition Programs and SummerBridge :D

I’ve been trying all week to fax my application in but it’s been busy everytime. if I mail it and it doesn’t get there before march 24 am I off the priority to go? it’s really frustrating-__-

how do we sign up? i can’t find info about it online

@allornothin:
Did the deadline state that it was March 24th? Remember, that’s it’s actually Spring Break right now, so they may not process it in time. You can always mail it with priority mail or first class mail to make sure it gets there by March 24th. Unfortunately, because they need the time to match up the host with the participant and prepare for everything, if you do not get your application in on time, you may lose priority. However, you should try to contact/call them to make sure. Email: spaces@ucsd.edu and Telephone number: (858)534-7330. Good Luck to you!

@bindi92: You need to be invited to the program because it is for admitted high school seniors from 4th & 5th quintile schools.

I got invited, but I can’t find any additional info on this program either. Only a phone call.

i got invited to a similar 3 night stay at ucsc… none for ucsd? idk why its the same thing (for latinos and other underrepresented minorities.

im going to ucsc for a free vacation

@101921 - S got invited when ucsd called about this acceptance, and he received an email invitation.

S was able to fax in his registration form this weekend. fax indicated it as successful, but will UCSD confirm our registration (via email, or)?

yeah they sent me a confirmation email today.
