UCSD Personal Statements

so i was just wondering how UCSD takes the Personal statements into account. i read elsewhere that they are like "robots" scanning for "points" to add and that's all..is this true or a "myth"i have already turned in my application but i was just wondering how personal statements play a role in UCSD.

i know UCSD is all about high GPA's and great SAT's but still the essay need to come in right??

In high school, I was told that UCSD admission officers briefly scan the personal statements only to check for socio-economical hardships and the like. Otherwise, the personal statement does not really affect whether or not someone get in.

It is true that ucsd accepts you based on the number of points your application receives and GPA and SAT scores are the most important factor. However, I’m sure you applied to other UC. Every school has a different way of review applications. UCLA and Berkeley like to take the holistic approach and really look at your personal statement. However, GPA and SAT scores for any school is the most important factor in determining whether or not you will be admitted.
