I know it’s a lot of units, but is it actually a difficult GE? Or do science/engineering majors just not like humanities? I’m a cogsci (CBN) major but I actually enjoy writing, so I wonder if Revelle will be hard or not.
If you enjoy writing, it won’t be the worst. HUM forces you to read and engage with obscure texts much more than any of the other writing courses, which is where it gets its reputation from. I just pulled a stack of HUM books I’m trying to sell out of my desk, and the texts include the Bible, Machiavelli, Hobbes, de Montaigne, Milton, Shakespeare, and St. Augustine. It’s also less of a “response to literature” type English course and more of a philosophy sequence where the textbooks are works by Western thinkers and authors. Yes, it’s hell. But it does make you a better writer and, to some degree, a better thinker.
Then again, I’m a science/engineering major so take my word with a grain of salt
