UCSD - Safety or Match?

Is UCSD considered a safety school or a match for in-state residents?

Er, it depends--it can be a safety for some but a reach for others. If you're an ELC student not applying to a super-competitive program like bioE, then it's a safety.

You may as well apply to all the UCs anyway if you're in-state.

Well, almost 99% of its class is among top 10% of their HS class. Thats the highest I've seen, higher than a lot of the top 15 schools.

UCSD must be smart then huh?

UCSD is generally considered the third best UC, after Berkeley and LA. Some stats for you would be helpful. Generally CCers would be either a match or safety, but for the general population, all the UCs are reaches, and UCSD is actually very selective among the UCs. I personally know a couple bright students at my prep school that are going there and were accepted by a lot of more well-known schools.

@Phead128, considering that the UCs were created to accept the top 1/8 (12.5%) of the best in the state, that is not surprising at all, but yeah, UCSD is definitely pretty good.
