UCSD social scene

You can always visit SDSU and you are only 2 hours away from LA and like 30 minutes to an hour from Mexico

I don’t think it is practical to party at SDSU. It is SO far away that you would have to drive there and as everybody knows, drinking and driving do not mix. I think it is like 45 minutes away from UCSD.

@collegedropout1 make friends at SDSU in the frats and crash at their pad, done deal. @lindyk8 , yes, I think “Obey Jewbacca” is more suitable for my persona lol.

I’m transferring from SDSU and forgive me for using a cliche, but your college experience is truly what you make of it. Yes, SDSU is known for its parties and its awesome social scene or whatever, but in the two years I was there I’ve not attended a single party. And that was by my own choice. There’s a lot going on, but it’s not like it’s going to come to you. You gotta go out there and get what you want. I got exactly what I wanted - a small circle of friends to just chill/study with, etc.

On the other hand, I’m sure UCSD doesn’t get as crazy as UCSB’s deltopia or it isn’t as - what my UCLA tour guide used to describe UCLA - “poppin.” But if there’s a will there’s a way. If you wanna party, party you shall. (Ugh the cliches are real in this post)

Maybe UCSD’s social scene is a good thing for me. As a computer science major, I don’t think it is good to be around so many distractions. I need lots of time to study.

@CollegeDropout1‌

So you’re going to UCSD?

@SDSUCSD‌, Lol, I knew someone would use the cliche.

Tijuana, Mexico is 45 min away from UCSD, where the drinking age is 18! Who’s down once a week? lol

@ocnative. When I wrote that, I finally thought that I made up my mind, but the just a short while latter, I changed my mind. I’m staying in LA.

Does anyone know what there is to do in San Diego?

@andrew69, I’m sure this thread has made you want to jump off a bridge. Don’t worry, it will be fine. When you get to UCSD do rush, join a club. All anyone ever ends up with anywhere is their circle of 20 friends or so. The transfer dorms seem nice there and I know students there who love it.

A lot of outdoor activities, my daughter tried surfing. For those in majors that need serious time commitment, it doesn’t matter what school you go to you won’t have a lot of time to play.

@CollegeDropout1‌ UCSD is definitely not 45 minutes away from SDSU. More like 20-25 I believe.

I have not been to UCSD yet, so can anyone tell me whether the students are outgoing or friendly?

@UCxDreamer It appears that you are right.

@Andrew69 Since there are STEMS majors at UCSD,most people are introverted. This is what also leads to its poor social scene.

Let’s not generalize. I was an engineer major and I was never an introvert, more like an extreme extrovert. My daughter is also a STEM major and she is always have fun. In fact, her friends often comment why she is always happy. My other daughter who is a humanities major was an introvert, she loves books, but she was also shy when she started college, she is definitely more social now.

@DrGoogle There are a lot of introverts that give UCSD a bad name. It is sad, but true.

Probably, but I was there recently and a lot of them look reasonably happy despite the coming finals and stuff.

Yup, regrets were made… Should have went to UCSB. Would have had an awesome time, and had a great education… Oh, well that’s life.
