@Cdelta, does that mean we have to rely on off-campus housing and do some apartment hunting? lol

@bhav007
I guess it depends on when they tell us. And on how many transfers will actually dorm. LAst year they actually started notifying before june 1st. Idk exactly when but when i got my email it was 5/29. Hopefully itll be the same this year too…Which begs another question - if we put on campus housing on our finanacial aid and get amount based on that and we don’t get the dorms, what will ahppen to that xtra money?

@Cdelta, not sure, I think they will know whether we didn’t stay on campus, and just give us the grant based on off-campus housing.

Heh I guess that will be the worst case scenario. Not only well get lower amount of finanacial aid, well have go aptment searching like u said lol. Isn’t this SD area were talking about here? What’s the avg rent cost? 1500 for a 1bdroom?

Actually, UCSD is in La Jolla, where places are expensive I think? Idk

UCSD is in La Jolla. You can find people looking to share apartments on Craigslist and through the housing office. Many students share two or three bedroom apartments with 2 students per room to cut down on costs. UCSD does have a shuttle that goes from the UCSD medical center in Hillcrest to campus. This opens up the neighborhoods of Mission Hills, Hillcrest, University Heights, and Banker’s Hill to those that do not have a car. You can find apartments in these neighborhoods that are somewhat cheaper than La Jolla. I live in University Heights and I prefer it to the La Jolla area. It is walking distance to my favorite places (Balboa Park, museums, farmer’s market), has more diversity, and a better nightlife. It also has a historical feel, which I love. I plan on taking the shuttle to campus next year.

According to last years thread, some people got off the wait list on May 29th. Hopefully they do that again and some of us are notified today!

The wait is giving me reallly bad anxiety… Either UCSD or another year (3rd year) at CC, which I am dreading more than anything.

I’m gonna call ucsd tomorrow and find out exactly how many students they can take off the waitlist. They must know that by now…I’m also going to ask when we will hear from them specifically because they must also know that info better as well. Tired of being on waitlist I just wanna get accepted…hopefully. And after that I have housing to worry about (sigh)

I doubt we’re going to hear anything until the 1st. Should we see if the “housing trick” works for the waitlist since it apparently worked for regular admissions? Mine is still the bad one lol

@eastbaytransfer mine still has the bad message to, but I strongly don’t think it matters for waitlisted applicants. It’s either they choose to accept us or they don’t…hopefully we will know in june. Whatever the decision, I’m still going to definitely enjoy my summer! I’m tired of dumbass school to be totally honest at the moment. I’ve needed this summer break since spring break ended.

I’m not sure if I should take myself off the waitlist. Even though I got accepted to UCLA, I still want to go to UCSD to major in computer science, something I cannot do at UCLA. These next few days will be very difficult.

@SJ1408 Same here.

@CollegeDropout1 might as well keep yourself on, especially if you’re strongly considering UCSD and you made it this far. what’s your major at UCLA?

@CollegeDropout1 I’m curious too, I am on the waitlist at SD for computer science and LA is cognitive science

@eastbaytransfer I’'m a stats major at UCLA.

@2014drew Computer science > Cognitive science. If I was you, I would definitely go to UCSD. Your employment out look will be much better if you major in computer science at UCSD.

We’re getting closer and closer to June 1st!

Man, I haven’t had those “college confidential waiting for decisions excitement” in a while. Remember those days? like 1-2 months ago? lol.

@bhav007 To tell you the truth, waiting for a decision is the most exciting part of applying to colleges. The whole waiting process was actually more exciting than the idea of going to UCLA or UCSD.

@CollegeDropout1, I was actually on these threads the whole time during the waiting process (starting like March 15th) because I knew it would build up, and the feeling of getting accepted would feel even greater because of all this thread checking.

The thread checking would build up so that when we did get an acceptance, it would feel AMAZING (more so than just simply checking the portal one day). You know what I mean?

That hype though.

What wasn’t amazing was waiting for UCSD’s 2nd batch to come out… they released a small batch in mid-march and didn’t release the next until April 18th. It was annoying to come home during that time period to see 100+ replies in the UCSD transfer thread, expecting to see the 2nd batch finally being released but then seeing that it was people talking about the dumb housing trick.
