UCSD Transfers, Gather Here

what made you guys choose ucsd over other uc’s? im stuck between uci and ucsd, my main deciding factor is social life because im a political science major which is pretty much the same quality in irvine and san diego. however i hear bad stuff about the social life at both schools (more about sd). so my question to you guys is do you guys just not belive the rumors of sd’s social scene? or do you not care and are focused strictly on education?

I picked UCSD mainly because of the location, I was born and raised in San Diego and wanted to stay in SD. As far as the social scene, that isn’t as important to me, but I think any place is what you make of it. If you are sociable, you’ll make friends and have fun. There is so much to do in San Diego (far more then Irvine) like the beach, downtown Sd and Pacific Beach are awesome if you like partying, along with a ton of other stuff.

The social scene at UCI and UCSD are the same I would say…both being pretty miserable. I chose UCSD because it was better for my major and I don’t have to take as many classes.

actually after attending the Transfer Admit Day at the ERC conference they said that if you are IGETC certified you are only required to complete 3 MMW classes to complete ERC’s GE requirement.

I’m majoring in Management Science Economics and am at ERC as well! from the Bay area

Since social life is your deciding factor, I’ll put in my two cents.

I thought downtown SD was a lot more lively than a lot of places in LA. Beach seemed to be walking distant from UCSD. When it comes to your education, I think there needs to be a fine balance of education and fun, not strictly one or the other.

When I’m at SD this fall, my main focus will be my studies but one won’t find me strictly at the library. I like catching movies when I can, playing sports, getting fit at the gym, checking out restaurants(cause I love eating) and exploring the area(museums, scenes etc). There were a lot of things to sign up for during Admit Day(clubs/groups help to socialize) so for sure there are potentially a lot of things to do. Of course, like I said again, education is the main focus but I’m going to try to put these things in my schedule. So it’s really what you make out of it.

During my visits, I tended to gravitate towards the Price Center which has some of the things I mentioned up there^^^. Maybe that’s something to take into consideration.

transfer dorms are crappy? i thought they were just built this year (shouldnt something this new be nice? :P)

so ive been looking on craigslist for one bedroom apartments anddddd they are soooo expensive… ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

I just submitted my SIR! Revelle, biochemistry and cell biology. And yes, I applied for The Village!

I picked UCSD because I’m too good for UCLA 8) and plus the Westwood scene gets old since I grew up on the Westside.

SO EXCITED! Is anyone thinking about going greek?

Hey dudez I’m in Revelle as well! and I also applied for the village! Did you join the facebook group? :o

@ feihtkrad: No I didn’t! Can you post a link? Oh and were you at orientation? I was the one sitting in the back row at the Revelle orientation and asked “so what was the question?” when that one girl asked the really long 10-part question hahahah!

Yea join our facebook group if you haven’t already…here is the link…

LOL I remember that! I was kinda in the middle row/column

@Allisonn:

You’re just not looking in the right places… ;)

Giving up my apartment after this spring. So, I’ll be competing with all of you to find an affordable, close to school, 1bd room.

I do have an edge on you guys though: I’ve already done it before, know the average cost for apartments in a given area, and I know how long it takes to get to campus from various areas around SD.

Muahahaha!

@UC_Transfer:

I’ll double tap what you said about social life.

There’s really a lot to do here. Join clubs, make friends, add them both on facebook. The social scene here runs on facebook, and you can easily find events every weekend if you want to. Houseparties too.

Out of 20,000+ people, every night there’s plenty who want to party.

i got into winter for UCSD as an international economics major but i still have to do Calc 1 2 3 in order to take upper divison classes and i was thinking about switching my major to communications, do they offer intro to communications in winter? i am not sure how this will work, i am really starting to stress over this

how hard would it be to get a spot at the village? Also, are there other fellow transfer students looking to dorm? Message me.

grindallday i think theres a decent chance to get a spot in the village. theres going to be room for 1000 transfers and then an additional 500 later on. im in the market of looking for housing as well

loller if you find something let me know man.

Village looked cool until i saw the floor plans. Im not down with so many ppl per appartment for freaking 1200 bucks a month.

How many people would we be sharing it with?

sharing with 3 or 5 people, depending on the building.
