I just got an email to attend a by invitation only UCSD VIP tour (they even threw in a free lunch). What does this mean? Is it a subtle way of telling me that I may receive an acceptance letter by March?
I got the same email and am wondering the same thing.
@SD2020 @Baileehunter stats?
I would assume it’s a good sign. I’m guessing this is for possible Regents admits or first gen/minority admits, similar to the admissions phone call thing. But obviously I could be completely wrong.
@gonewiththeair Could you explain what you mean by regent admins?
I also received this invitation. What could it mean in regards to our admission?
Can you guys please post your stats if you received it (and if you’re an URM). Thanks.
GPA
UW: 4.0 W 4.1
ACT 27
Ethnicity: Hispanic
@Baileehunter Here is a link about the Regents scholarship at UCSD: https://students.ucsd.edu/finances/financial-aid/types/scholarships/freshmen/regents.html
@andrew545 my unweighted gpa is 4.0 and I am an URM (Native American)
Yes, I think this is a tour for URMs then. Definitely a good sign though! Are you guys both seniors?
Yes I am a senior. I’m super eager for the event on Thursday. I haven’t really seen anyone else receive this.
Please let us know what happened at the event after you go! I’m really curious to know what it’s all about. Thank you xx
Not just a tour for URMs @gonewiththeair. I’m White/Asian.
@gonewiththeair Yes, I am a senior.
I’m assuming it’s specifically set up for seniors who applied and live in or near San Diego. But all my friends at my high school who have applied to UCSD didn’t receive this invitation. So I’d be curious to know how they picked who to invite and whether it means anything in regards to admission. Perhaps it will be explained at the tour though.
I live in San Diego and didn’t receive an invitation, so I’m not quite sure that’s what it is. They will probably explain at the tour.
I’ve asked around at my school as well and no one has heard of it! Perhaps it is for Regents admits? Please let me know what it was all about after you’ve taken the tour, and have fun! xx
Alright, I’ll try to detail everything that happened for anyone curious. The idea that this was for only URM seems to be false as there was multiple ethnicities at the event. The size of the event was quite small as who was attending. Before we began our tour the individual who was coordinating the event did make a comment on our application (Can’t remember what she exactly said, something we were all good and etc). From there, we were split into two groups and were given a well-informed tour by current students there. After we finished the tour of the campus we were given a complementary lunch. We ate and I talked to one of the coordinators who stated he was involved in the admissions process. He told me that this was the first year that they decided to do an event like this and even commented saying “you’re here for a reason.” After the lunch we were given a prompt view into the dorms at Roosevelt College (One of the colleges within UCSD). Finally, we were give an UCSD shirt and athletic type backpack and the coordinator of the event talked about decisons being released in March. At the end, she mentioned to be sure to check them. There was no mention of Regents but I believe they were subtly saying we were accepted. I mean it would be out of policy to state that as UC seems to be very strict in regards to policy and etc. However, I may be totally wrong in regards to the acceptance but I don’t understand why UCSD would go out to do so much for us if we hadn’t been accepted. Anyway, I hope this narrative cured anyone’s curiosity about the VIP Event.
Update on my status: I have been accepted to Berkeley EECS! I have also been invited to apply for Regents at UCLA and interview for Regents at Berkeley. So, I hope this VIP tour is a subtle way of saying that you are accepted and are either going to get Regents or have a strong case for Regents.
Wow, congratulations @SD2020! Yes, from @AlexG2016’s description of the event, it seems like this was for potential Regents admits. You guys have certainly been admitted to UCSD from what the tour sounded like. Congratulations!
