Why should students attend San Diego and not Santa Barbara?
What makes UC San Diego special?

Do you value academic reputation or party life more? Simple.

Academic Rigor and studying on weekends vs. Partying on weekends

UCSD = more prestige
UCSB = crazier parties

^ what z7xfla said.

Still glowing that I got in as transfer! :D

It's more than the simplistic answers you got above. For example, UCSB has Division I sports and UCSD has Division II sports. At UCSB, most students live in Isla Vista, within a mile of each other and of campus. This means you're always close to friends. At UCSD, people are a lot more spread out and many have to take the bus to class. Both campuses are about 10 miles from the city centers (Santa Barbara and San Diego) where the active nightlife is at. Also, keep in mind that as far as public school go, UCSD is ranked #7 while UCSB is ranked #12, so you're not exactly sacrificing academics a whole lot by choosing UCSB.
