UCSD vs USC...looking for suggestions

Hi everyone:D

I’m an international student looking to work in CA after my college. I got admitted by UCSD Revelle College for undecided major, and USC gave me a place in its engineering school. I have two questions:

1.I want to study in Computer Engineering, but in UCSD it is an impacted major. I can only change my major to CE after two years only if I meet the GPA requirement. I’ve heard that Writing courses in UCSD seem to be difficult for foreign students, so I don’t know whether it will be a problem for me to change my major in UCSD.
2.Both schools have similar ranks in Computer and Electrical Engineering, which makes it really hard for me to choose…I wonder which school has better reputation in Bay area and more co-op opportunities to offer.

Also I’m subject to any other ideas about the two universities. It is really a hard choice for me, and I hope you can help me figure it out

  1. Transferring into CE at UCSD requires you to get the highest possible GPA in certain major-related courses only (Revelle's HUM program won't affect that). It's still very difficult to transfer in, with no guarantee that you'll succeed.
  2. I'm pretty sure the Viterbi School and Jacobs School have comparable reputations in the Bay Area (both of those guys founded Qualcomm). San Diego might have a slightly stronger research and tech sector for now. But if your sights are set on CE, I would go to USC. There's too much uncertainty when it comes to getting into engineering at UCSD. (That said, if you have a chance to tour both schools, tour both schools before deciding.)

Thx for your reply~ yeah it seems transferring into CE can be a problem in UCSD… And USC provides me with a 5000USD scholarship per year. Now I’m leaning towards USC. :stuck_out_tongue:

USC, no questions at all… why wait for uncertainties?? it’s not like Stanford vs USC.
