UCSD Waitlist Fall 2019 Transfer

@queen_ofthenorth It’s funny - I had the opposite experience. I went there once several weeks ago and wasn’t impressed. Went again yesterday to see if I could get to like it but again just wasn’t feeling it. It was decision day and I really found nothing out… Some of the people we interacted with there just weren’t friendly. There weren’t many food options around the campus. And it was hot and smelly…It was indeed quiet on the campus though.

I’m sure the education is great, however, and there are opportunities.

@kristinpete If I don’t get into SD, its going to be tough for me to choose between Davis and SB. I prefer Davis, but I’d have to get a BA there. As for SB, I’m admitted to their pre-psychological and brain sciences program which I feel like is more valuable than a psych BA.

Where do you plan to SIR for backup?

@queen_ofthenorth I’m thinking SB. I liked the campus more and did see diversity when I was there.

@kristinpete i’m stuck between the 2 but i really want to get off the sd waitlist

@queen_ofthenorth SAME. I don’t think they’ll be as eager to bring people off the list this year though…but I’m just being a pessimist.

@kristinpete last year people started hearing back earlier which makes me think the trend might be different this year. i’m kinda in trouble though because i took a CS class that’s too advanced for me and i really want to drop but it’s a req for SD so idk what to do. i don’t want to drop before i hear back from SD but i don’t think i’m capable of passing the class.

@queen_ofthenorth I think it depends quite a bit on the UCB and UCLA waitlists. If several people are let off of those waitlists, then spots open up for those of us on UCSD’s waitlist.

Can you call UCSD admissions anonymously and ask about the necessity of that course? Say you’re on the waitlist and are wondering if dropping the course could harm you in the event you were let off the waitlist.

@kristinpete My plan is to attempt the first midterm next week and call after depending on how it goes. Hopefully if I get in, they’ll just let me take an intro class when I transfer; I’m super nervous that this will ruin my chances

Major: Computer Science
Major GPA: 4
Transferable units GPA: 3.92 (62 units )
Overall GPA: 3.89
(I have all A except one B, 5 units English as a second language class that only 3 units of it are transferable)
Met all UCSD minimum requirements.
Status: waitlisted - UCSD
Rejected by all other campuses for not meeting their minimum major requirements.

By the way,
California resident
School: California Community College in San Diego

Really? SD’s CS requirements are very similar to other campuses.

This is the website I used to check what UCSD requires for their majors

https://admissions.ucsd.edu/transfer/transfer-major-preparation.html

SD does not require physics, differential equations, and discrete math while other campuses do some of them.

actually, there s a new update on UCSD major requirements website. They added two extra courses for CS B.S. from physics, chem, or bio. REQUIRED - EFFECTIVE FALL 2021

i wonder why they haven’t accepted anyone off the waitlist yet

Same, hopefully by next Friday we start hearing back from them

Hello I already uploaded this on UCI thread but I would like to get some advice from here too. so please read my situation and share me with your clever ideas. Thank you in advance.

Hi guys. this is my first post on this thread. I got into UCI as junior level for Chinese major. But I want to change my major to biology or other major. I just searched their website about changing major, and it says there is possible to change to biology major. (not 100% sure). in the meantime, I got waitlisted UCSD same major. if I have a change to declare to biology at UCSD I will. but unfortunately, they never allow transfer students to change capped major. but personally, I really love UCSD over UCI (I know both of schools really good). so if I get off waitlist from UCSD which choice would be good for me? if you were in my shoes, what would you do?

P.S I am sorry for not being fluent in English. I am still learning

Hey @samdol2 Try reposting your question on this thread instead

I think you will get a lot more answers to your question over there!

@tacoturnup oh thank you so much!

Just putting this out there, when I got in off the waitlist last year, it was around June 10th since the SIR for transfers is June 1st. Hope this helps us all!
