I was wondering if the UCSD waitlist decisions are based on a first come first serve basis. Anyone know?

It doesn’t seem like many are accepted from the waitlist, at any UC.

Not strictly true; I have gotten in trouble for linking to her before, but Google Ms. Sun’s UC Admissions Blog for more information. She just posted a round up of 2013 statistics, and the ones for UCSC were the most promising. (cut and pasted from her blog):

Santa Cruz (for freshman applicants):

Waitlist - 2,546 waitlist offers went out; 1,211 students opted in; all were admitted.

Appeal - 400 appeals received; 60 students were admitted.

Admission Cancellation - 214 students had their acceptance canceled; 103 of those failed to submit the required documents on time (transcripts, AP scores, etc.) and the rest had poor academic performance in senior year (D/F grades).

So about my question…

I don’t know for sure, but I doubt it. Why wouldn’t you just check the box, however?

what box?

never mind…I misread your original question to be about UCSC.

My D that was wait-listed on the infamous decision day just received an email today notifying her that a decision was available on her portal. Thanks for the speedy notification!

@latteladyla your daughter got wait listed at ucsd and then opted in for the wait list? If so, did she get in?

@dongkimkr95 I dont think we find out until May

@dongkimkr95 she has not opted in yet, but is planning to. I was just surprised that the notification email took that long to be sent. Also, UCSD isn’t going to notify until after the May 1st SIR date, but no later than June 1st.

@latteladyla oh i see what you mean. You meant the email for the change in admissions. I thought you meant the waitlist. Best of luck to all of us!

@latteladyla was your daughter admitted to UCSD? My son is now waitlisted there also.
