UCSD Waitlist Thread

Post here if you were waitlisted. I know last year 100% of the waitlist was denied. Do you guys think there's better hope this year?

Are any of you guys appealing? I have some family issues I could address but I'm not sure if I'll actually send an appeal letter or not. I got into Berkeley too, but in my opinion UCSD suits me better for its environment and my major (biology).

As far as I’m concerned, UCSD’s waitlist is pretty slow since UCSD does over-accept quite a lot of students to make up for the yield. I would send in an appeal if your heart is set on UCSD. The biology program here is fantastic. I declined Berkeley for UCSD for that reason too.

The competitive nature at UCSD and the lack of social prowess is not worth going to San Diego. This is why Berkeley is consitantly ranked higher than UCSD and its other UC counterparts.

Waistlisted here. I got into USC, but it is exactly the lack of social scene at UCSD that draws me to that school. I feel like kids at USC are only into partying and having fun, but that’s just me…

4.0 weighted GPA, 3.6 unweighted, 2100 SAT, 720 SAT II in U.S. History, ASB student government for 4 years, 2 years of ICC president, Red Cross Club officer for 3 years, CSF officer for 1 year, CSF life member, international services head for the American Red Cross

ugh why does UCSD even have a waitlist if they accept too many applicants? It’s kind of a rude tease…

Take it for what its worth, but Ms. Sun’s most recent post stated that around 3,000 kids were wait listed but there was no information on how many actually wrote that 200-word essay to opt-in.

I would just like to clarify that “100% of waitlist was denied” applies to freshman applicants ONLY.

I was accepted off the waitlist as a transfer last year.

Well hopefully they’ll take some of us this year. I talked to an admissions officer at UCSD a few days ago and she admitted that they were very disorganized the last two years pertaining to the waitlist. Hopefully this year they’ll have their **** together and will be able to fill some spots.

@Theman95-I think you have your sources mixed up. UCSD is nowhere near as cutthroat as Berkley or even UCLA for that matter. The jump in difficulty between SD and Berkeley is miles high.

You guys know you could have appealed while on the waitlist right?

Sorry someone told me that. What are the chances on the wait list this year?

It’s probably pretty slim but honestly know one knows except for UCSD

how were they disorganized?

She just admitted that since it was only the second year having a wait list they were disorganized and still working out the kinks. She also said that two years ago they took everyone from the wait list but last year they didn’t take anyone.

I was waitlisted too! I called them today and they told me not to get my hopes too high since they didn’t admit anyone from the wait list last year. Do they over-accept? I really want to go to UCSD, but I feel like it’s kind of a dead end now.

oh so they still haven’t decided if they are going to accept students from the waitlist?

Will we receive an email stating that we did or didn’t get accepted from the waitlist or are we just expected to check my application regularly?

Even after getting admitted to UCSD off the waitlist, is it still conditional? (You have to maintain a 3.0, 2.0 gpa…or?) Can anyone who got off the transfer waitlist please provide some info on this?

I just got off the UCSB waitlist so I am cancelling my SIR to UCSD, I hope one of you guys gets my spot, best of luck!

Is there a specific date that they will announce all admissions if anyone got in off the waitlist? Or will it be if one drops then you get in gradually thing?

Hey guys I had a unique situation. I was rejected by ucsd along with many other UCs. I’m international so I took A-Levels. Apparently the UCs were confused by the way I listed my results except ucla where I was waitlisted. So I sent in an appeal to ucsb and ucsd. I was accepted on appeal to ucsb. My appeal decision to ucsd was: placed on waitlist. Anyone encountered this before? Anyway I was accepted off the waitlist into ucla so all’s good.

I don’t think there is a specific date they announce it, on the site page it just said in between May 1 and June 1. And it says that they will notify you by email, but just in case that email goes to spam or something, I’m checking the site everyday. If you get admitted off the waitlist I think you only have like 3 days to accept before they move on.
