UCSD Warren College for Non-Engineering Students

I'm applying to UC Berkeley, UC San Diego, and 5 other non-UC schools this year as a fall 2014 freshman. I've researched all of the UCSD colleges in detail and have decided to put Warren as my first choice on the UC App. I want to go into International Studies with a minor in Linguistics, and eventually (hopefully, this is 7 or 8 years into the future) go to law school, and become an international human rights lawyer. But after looking at student reviews, I noticed that Warren is known for being an engineering-geared school. I like all of the GE requirements, and have carefully considered other factors like whether it works with my intended major, whether I like the campus, etc. Can I still do well as a non-engineering student at Warren?

Also, with the 2-credit (?) math requirement, it doesn't seem like a huge deal (or should it)? I'm not allergic to math, kind of. I am already taking AP Calculus AB, which can take care of a piece of it, and I would like to take more calculus and perhaps some logic math? I'm more afraid of the natural sciences requirement. I'm taking HL IB Biology, which is the worst class I've ever taken, and doubt I'll get a high enough score on the exam to get credit for it. So should these GE requirements frighten me? Is Warren the best choice?

You will do fine in Warren- there may be more engineering students there but there are students of all majors included. You also might look at ERC. My son is a Science major and ERC was not his 1st choice, but he loves it! ERC emphasizes international understanding. As part of their core, they require the 5-quarter Making of the Modern World Series. It explores the development of other cultures in an effort to develop understanding and acceptance of those cultures. It does require a lot of heavy reading and writing. My science kid thought he would not enjoy this series but has found he loves it! The math/ science requirement is for 2 qtrs. of each.

ERC has probably the nicest dorms. They are newer and have an enclosed grass quad area where it is easy to meet people. It is walking distance to the beach and close to the gym. It includes an International House where students can choose to room with International students. It also includes a 2nd language proficiency GE requirement. It might be more in tune with your major. Just something to consider.
