UD named One of the Hottest Colleges in the Nation

I thought prospective students might be interested in this info from UD's website:

4:25 p.m., Feb. 28, 2012--The University of Delaware has frequently appeared on “best value” lists, but now the home of the Blue Hens has joined the company of Brown, Duke, Yale, Vanderbilt, and other elite schools in being named one of the hottest colleges in the nation.

The list was publicized by The Huffington Post on Monday, Feb. 27, with the headline “The Hottest Colleges In The Nation: InsideCollege List.” The schools on the list were pronounced “the place to be” and “the experts’ choice for schools most popular with students.”

Campus Stories
UD has frequently appeared on "best value" lists, but now the home of the Blue Hens has been named one of the hottest colleges in the nation.
InsideCollege, which pegs itself as “the insider’s guide to everything college,” has more than 700 lists in three categories: Facts and Stats Lists, Expert’s Choice Lists, and User-generated Lists.

The lists cover a vast array of criteria—from money matters, geography, and campus beauty to sports, campus radio stations, and academics.

UD appears on 53 InsideCollege lists, including “Interesting Mascots” and “Making a Large School Seem Smaller: Honors Colleges.”

Delaware is also recognized for its strengths in figure skating, hospitality management, criminal justice, music, graphic design, fashion merchandising and journalism.

In addition, UD is on the hidden gems list, where it is described as “truly a gem but not hidden; superior academics and competitive athletics are just two facets of this gem.”

Just below the list of hottest colleges on the InsideCollege website is a second list of schools that were deemed merely “hot,” including the University of Maryland and Penn State.

The Hottest Colleges List:

The complete list includes Boston College, Boston University, Brown College, College of Charleston, Elon University, Emory University, George Washington University, Georgetown University, Muhlenberg College, New York University, Northwestern University, University of Delaware, University of Denver, University of Miami, University of Michigan, University of Southern California, Vanderbilt University, Villanova University, Washington University in St. Louis, and Yale University.

Not bad company to be felt to on a par with. Best luck to all applicants.

does this mean that it will be harder to get accepted this year. Applications are up 10%. Should we worry even more?

mwallenmd: Thanks for posting! Love that list! Will share with DD.

socaldad: No worries. Your DD is good. I have a very good feeling…

Tuition is way up too, which may explain the shift from best value to hottest. ;)

LINYMOM, Thanks for the support. Hope you are right.

socaldad, these lists, while fun, are certainly not objective in any way. You see so many of them because they bring traffic to their websites. As the UD page says, “Inside College…has more than 700 lists.”

Mwallenmd- thanks for posting! But now I’m more anxious than ever to hear if my D has been accepted- and I don’t want to send her this link until she is!

I sincerely apologize if this thread has caused increased worries/anxieties for anyone. This certainly was not my intent when I initiated this thread. As an ardent UD supporter (if you have not guessed this already) my intent was to provide applicants with additional supporting evidence (even if not formally research based) about the high quality of education a student can obtain at UD. However, it certainly is true that the number of applications, competition for admission, and accepted student Stats have steadily been increasing over the last 5 years as UD becomes increasingly known for the quality of its academics along with its relatively moderate cost for OOS students. Most college applicants would give their eye teeth just to be accepted at most all of the schools listed on the “hottest” list. I feel that just to be included in any “list” with such schools says something very positive about UD as an institution of higher learning. Best of luck to all applicants.

Mwallenmed, Of course we all understand your intent, and know how helpful you are here.
I knew of the ranking, and appreciated you posting it.
We are all just crazy nervous parents, who want our kids wishes to be fulfilled. Don’t mind our musings.

thanks for your support, and I only hope that I have reason to get more from the folks here in the next few weeks.

Thanks from all of us who wait with restlessness…
