Hey guys. So, I'll be going into 11th grade this year which means college search time. I'd say that I'm a tier 2 to low tier 1 college applicant. Anyways, I'm wondering what would you consider this college "academically" be rated next too? I guess.. what I'm saying is what other schools do people apply to who apply here.

Delaware is an amazing school. People give it such a bad rep because it’s a state school and it isn’t ranked as one of the top state schools, like UC Berkley or University of Michigan. However, it has great faculty, a gorgeous campus (indoors and outdoors), great location, amazing study abroad programs (they had the first study abroad program in the U.S.), and tons of facilities for anything from ice skating rinks to chemistry research labs. Delaware is a gem of a school, and I’m surprised that it is not ranked higher in USNWR rankings than it is. Its admissions rates are dropping quickly and don’t seem to be rising anytime soon. As a Delaware resident, I believe that this phenomenon is due to the fact that the University of Delaware is the best and most prestigious school in the state, and it is also very cheap for Delaware residents. As a result, the top students who want to stay instate or cannot afford to leave the state all flock to the University of Delaware. And about 1/4 of the class of the private schools in Delaware head to UD, so it has a smart student body.

I can’t really give you an answer as to where else UD applicants apply. Nearly every person at my school applies to UD (my school is in Delaware), so regardless of where else they are looking, they apply to Delaware.

That’s cool. I’m from NY and money isn’t really an issue for me so I’ll be looking at UD. I definitely want to have a smart student body. I have a while to go until I really need to start looking, but thanks for the info!

Delaware is becoming increasingly selective in choosing its students. Many students attending UD have also accepted by other high quality universities such as Rutgers University, University of Maryland, Penn State, Villanova etc. Delaware is unique among State Universities in that the majority of its students come from out of state (NJ, NY, PA, and MD). Certain majors at UD are extremely selective (i.e. chemical engineering, nursing, several others at least). The education you can obtain at UD is equal to that you would get in any major university in the country. Good luck to you in your future college quest.
