OOS - Thanks for the reminder to add that info!
Based on what Iāve read here, in previous years it seems like UDel would post a chart where students meeting specific GPA/test score combinations were guaranteed to receive $ within a predefined merit range. This year feels much more random, although Iām sure they have some weighting algorithm that theyāre working off of. This year, UDel has stated they will not consider test scores at all, but even putting scores aside, your kidās GPA sounds strong enough to qualify for higher merit in previous years. I would reach out and ask - I feel like it canāt hurt?
My daughter was accepted to the honors college this evening. We are in state, was accepted the end of November, and her major is Biological Science.
@momkentrow We were also surprised and disappointed in the 10k award. OOS, 4.1 w GPA from #2 HS in the state, all honors or AP, 1490, 2 Varsity sports, 3 year president of a non profit, over 400 volunteer hours,
independent research in his field, also admitted to the HC. Other schools have been far more generous. In our case, not considering test scores really hurt as my sons GPA reflects a rough freshman year.
What was the unweighted GPA? They recalculated them in order to compare (I think a 4.4 is the highest at our high school, no A+). My daughter got $15,000 with her UW of almost 3.9, was hoping for $17,000 with her 33 ACT.
My daughter applied Early Action and was accepted within a month. She applied to the Honors College, but has not heard anything. Is anyone else waiting to hear about Honors College acceptance?
Yup. Accepted Dec 11. No honors decision yet
Same here! Accepted EA, Received Merit Scholarship but still no word on Honors.
Yep. D accepted 11/4, received merit scholarship and still waiting.
Thanks for all the replies. We feel much better over here, hearing that she is not alone!
Has anyone been invited to a Distinguished Scholars interview? We have not heard anything at all about thisā¦ and canāt even find information on the UD website.I believe last year people were invited around this time. It would be an awesome scholarship to be considered for!
Waiting to hear here as well. I am pretty sure itās for Honors College students only.
I believe itās an invitation for 100 top students, my daughter got into honors but only has a 33 ACT so Iām sure sheās out.
I could be wrong but I think those invites went out already? Not sure if all have gone out and there are still more to comeā¦
Pretty sure those invites will be coming this month. My friends daughter was invited a couple of years ago and the invitation came in Feb.
My D18 invited in 2018. Invites came in middle of February and weekend was early in March. Everyone who attends gets a bump on the merit money and about 10-15 get offered full ride DuPont. She attended and had her 17K scholarship bumped to 24K. Good experience for her. However, she wanted to big time football and warmer weather so she went to Clemson instead. D21 has basically the same stats and would love to get invited but obviously a long shot for everyone.
I wonder if the top 100 is determined strictly by GPA and SAT/ACTā¦Perhaps this year, like everything else, the criteria will be different.
My daughterās portal was updated today to show a decision release date of February 5th. The original acceptance letter still shows as November 20th. Iām not sure what update will be posted for her on Friday (Portal still shows the honors application is being reviewed), but it looks like some update will be coming this Friday.
Status update on portal is still from November but the section that says reviewing honors decision disappeared two weeks ago. Not sure whatās going on. Very frustrating. Has anyone had this happen? Has anyone gotten a rejection from honors on the portal or does it come by regular mail?
My son applied to Honors on Dec 9th as a reach. It is unlikely that he will be admitted. I just wish they would tell him so, rather than leaving him hanging. Itās been two monthsā¦they have their answer. Yet, he gets daily emails asking him to accept his place in the incoming class and submit his deposit.
He applied to Cybersecurity Scholars as well with no response.
There might be some spaces that open up. My D hasnāt 100 percent decided but is probably going to another university. Once she decides, if she decides, that should open up a space. Itās a hard school though to pass up- they are much more student centric than others.
