Same, my daughter is waiting on acceptances and offers from other schools.
Mine too. Delaware made her a decent OOS deal w/honors but I donât think that is where she will end up
Re Distinguished Scholars -
Admissions office said invitees to the weekend would learn âwithin the next few weeksâ and that it will be virtual.
Invitations came out right around now last year and this yearâs Discho weekend is in mid March so invitations should be coming out very soon! Although, they can probably push the invitations back a little since the event will be virtual. Good luck!
My daughter got an invite to apply for Scholars & Fellows today but I donât see any program that really grabs her. I wish there was a social media group where the honors kids could chat with each other. I really feel like the Honors College is a great fit for her but without a real visit to meet people I donât think she will consider it.
There is a virtual meet and greet with current honors kids. My son did that last weekend and got a really good feeling. He is a work hard play hard kid so he needed to know that there were other kids like him. I think he was concerned that there would be too much of an academic focus to the detriment of fun, lol. We are from CT, where are you from? Maybe Iâll ask my son to start a chat or a snap or whatever kids do these days.
We are from Maryland. We will look into the honors virtual meet and greet, I guess itâs better than nothing. The decision making process is so tough this year.
We have not heard yet about Distinguished Scholars either. Someone started a new thread for Distinguished Scholars 2025. I commented on it so I can hopefully find it again. Iâm new to CC so I donât know what Iâm doing
My sophomore had the same concern, found out it was not a concern at all. She went random for roommate selection and UD did an amazing job. She found her tribe right away, they like to have fun (actually thatâs a huge understatement) but really care about academics (theyâve all made the dean list every semester). Itâs a very fun school with a lot of activities (and yes, plenty of parties).
@Mjkacmom , do you think a kid who is solidly in the âwork hardâ but not in the âplay hardâ category could find their peers there? My kid likes hanging out with other kids, but is not into attending parties. Heâs excited about some of U Delâs programs, but is a little concerned with the party school reputation.
Definitely, there is so much to do besides parties. The students do put their education first. A lot of parents have commented how great UD is about roommate matching. My daughter has visited her HS friendsâ colleges and thought they has much less going on.
Great to hear, thanks!
I wanted to chime in here as well. My daughter was very concerned about the partying at UD and wants no part of it. She is a current freshman and while yes, there are parties, there are also plenty of students who arenât into that. She and her friends are planning for their first Saturday night back at UD next weekend and they are going to UDairy, playing Bingo (campus organized and online) and then playing Just Dance. These are all honors kids who got 4.0âs last semester. They find ways to have good, clean, pandemic safe fun.
@Topcat123 thanks! And I just looked up UDairy which I hadnât heard of before, and the fact that they have their own ice cream parlor that uses milk from cows on their farm, is pretty awesome. Starting to wish I went there for collegeâŠ
And I wish I wasnât lactose intolerant!
Do you know can you be in honors and scholars? My D who has been accepted to honors was just invited to apply for Scholars.
Yes, I believe you can be in both. My daughter is a distinguished scholar in the honors college and is also in some cyber security scholars program so I guess thatâs a couple of different scholars programs. They have so many different opportunities!
My daughter just received an invitation for the Scholars & Fellows program. The cybersecurity looks like something she might be interested in. How does your daughter like it?
She likes it! She is on a team building an app for one of the biggest clubs at UD. It exciting to have hands on opportunities as a freshman. She doesnât think cybersecurity will be her chosen profession but she is enjoying the experience. She really prefers coding.
Anyone else still waiting for an honors decision?
