D was accepted into quite a few schools, but the top choices are JMU and Udel at this time.

Both are great schools and can be easily accessed (albeit a few hours) away from home.

They both have great things going for them. D wants to have an active social life, which both schools would offer. D's major seems a bit more advanced at Ddel, but I don't think that matters as she won't really have to go to grad school afterwards.......(at least not immediately).

Both schools are similar in size. JMU is definitely more isolated and rural, and not as diverse as UDel. If she likes mountains and outdoor activities JMU has that. My S prefers UDel based on location and diversity.

What is her major?

I would also look at the other possible majors. It is not uncommon for students to change their minds after 1 or even 2 years. Which of the 2 schools offers more alternatives of interest to her?

My daughter went to UDel and friend's son to JMU...location wise UDel is a better choice for access into Philadelphia, NYC, Baltimore, DC. JMU is very southern...he loved it there(said all the girls were gorgeous), but for a girl, I would lean toward Delaware.

My boyfriend goes to JMU and I go to UDel. I visited there and the food is AWESOME! There are many options besides the dining hall that you can use your dining hall punches at. UD's food is really awful, I started resorting to cereal last year. Also, JMU is more of a party school than UD. I didn't think that was possible til I visited, and it was pretty insane. I'd say if you're majoiring in science go to UDel...but don't expect it to be easy b/c it's a state school (I made that mistake).

Yeah...I've never been to a party that's been broken up. And the ones I hear about that are, usually the cops just make everyone leave. Your best bet is to not be stupid about drinking; most of the RAs won't say a thing unless you put them in danger of getting in trouble by puking in the hallway or something.
As for crime: well, there was a serial rapist this year that got into one of the dorms. And last year there was an attempt to stab a pizza guy behind my dorm. But these things can happen at any campus.
I'm not happy here at all and am desperately trying to transfer, but that's just me; most of my friends absolutely love the school. It's definitely a decent education, and there's a great undergraduate research program if you're interested in that.
