I’m struggling with my college decision, and after a while it has come down to my top two schools: University of Delaware and University of Connecticut.
At Udel, I would be in the honors program, but since I’m out of state, the cost would be about 35,000 after my scholarships.
At Uconn, I live in Connecticut, so the price is 20,000 after scholarships.
If money wasn’t a factor, I would be leaning towards Delaware because I liked the town, location (much warmer), and people a lot more. The honors program is also a big plus. However, money is a factor of course, so Uconn makes more sense there. I’m also majoring in business undecided, but most likely marketing, and I’ve heard the Uconn school of business is better.
Honestly, I’m stuck, so I’m just looking for any information I don’t know, and if anyone here has had to make a similar decision. Thanks in advance for any responses.
There are many work opportunities on campus, and in the stores surrounding the UD campus. Contact admissions as they might be willing to bring your total admission cost down a bit, even if you have received merit $ already. The honors program at UD is outstanding and it sounds as though you are more attracted to their campus environment. Do you have a job or are willing to get one to offset the cost difference? UD has a long winter session and summer break so you can become employed then. In addition, you will have access to off campus housing sophomore year which will bring the costs down by 6-7,000$ per year. With the gap at 6-7,000$ more for UD sophomore-senior year, you can make it work if you are motivated.

UDel is at least $60k more.
How much will your parents pay each year? Will they pay for ALL of the UConn costs?
How would UDel get paid for?
What’s your budget?
What are your net costs* at each?
Also check out the ease of minoring in statistics or Business analytics or date science at zither one - marketing positions will require you to have one of those.

Either way I would eventually have to pay back money for both colleges, the question is whether I would be paying back 35 thousand or 20 thousand a year. My parents basically told me the extra money that it would take to go to Delaware would be all on me. The net costs are around 35,000 and 20,000 for each, give or take a couple thousand more.
I have bad news: You can’t borrow that much, so you can’t go to Delaware.
You are limited to a 5.5K loan as a freshman. Anything else would have to be borrowed by your parents.
Did you get into UConn’s Honors Program or can you ask about getting in (some Honors Programs allow you to petition and explain your motivations).
Agreed yellowjello> Go with the lower cost option. The amount of interest on the loans is something many students do not consider. Check out what Dave Ramsey has to say about student loans and debt. It’s best to start out with as little debt as possible and work as much as possible to pay as you go.
