“What to you guys think my chance are. I applied around 2 months ago. I will be graduating from an out of state community college with an AA. Im going for political science.
GPA:3.6
By the time i graduate i will have well over 60 credits
Also got into Phi Theta Kappa honor society.”

I’ve been admitted to PoliSci for the Fall 2010 semester. Stats 4.0 from a FL community college, PTK SGA.

I know of someone else who had a 3.55 and got in, but they were in state.

I would say that you’re borderline due to being OOS. It could go either way.

And you know that you can check your status online, right? You don’t have to wait for a letter. The fact that you’re in New York won’t have any bearing on how long it takes.

yeah i keep checking it online and it keeps telling me that it was referred to the college of my choice, so i guess i just got to wait it out until i get a letter or until my status changes.

Hey guys I was hoping someone could answer my question for me, I was reading the old Fall 2009 Transfer Thread and came across that apparently UF frowns upon or basically doesn’t let transfers change their majors (even if you are in the same college or have all the pre-reqs for the new major), basically the major you apply for is the one they say you will graduate with, and apparently they give you 2 fall and 2 spring semesters (2 years) to graduate.

It really depends on the school. UF is very strict because they have such limited enrollment. Also, because of budget cuts, financial aid, etc… students are being pushed to graduate as soon as possible. You might be okay since you already have the prerequisites for the different major. I would contact the specific college admissions department and ask if it is too late.

It’s not necessarily true that you cannot change majors, more that it rarely occurs (maybe less than 1% of transfers gets to change their major) and to have it changed is a whole process that requires a you to have extenuating circumstances (and a plan in place stating that you can still graduate on time… etc etc.) that they deem worthy to allow the change (or so I have been told by 2 different UF advisors I spoke to today anyways). Basically do not hold your breath if you want to change your major once you have been accepted.

I applied as an incoming junior transfer from out of state. My SAT is fairly low out of HS being a 1650/2400 but do SAT scores really matter as a junior transfer? My college GPA is a 3.85.

I would recommend calling the office for pretty much any reason to have someone who works in your college to pay attention to you application. That’s what happened with me. I had to make sure that CLAS got a certain piece of paper so I had to call twice a day to check and see if it had arrived. I just did this for about a week, and the same day that the paper arrive (the earliest possible time they could give a decision) my gatorlink changed to accepted.

Just an idea. I find it hard to believe that its a coincidence that I got in immediately after talking with CLAS and working on an issue with them.

SAT’s are not supposed to matter, but they will see the scores if they’re attached to your HS transcript.

I had high SATs but a low HS GPA and I got in. I don’t think they look at the high school records at all other than to check the language requirement.

Thanks, I actually called CLAS just now like you advised. They did check on my file but really gave me no information. All they said was decisions will be posted between now and the end of April. Information I already know!!! The wait continues. I’m just stressed b/c the only place I want to go is UF and I know my grades are good enough. 3.85 with Dean’s List in every semester of college I’ve had. I know being out-of-state without an AA is going to hurt me but I will have the required 60 credits…

We’ll see what happens. You don’t need an AA to get in, it’s just helpful. A 3.85 from uni is pretty good, IMO. It all depends on your major and how competitive it is. I hope you get a decision soon. Hang in there! =)

I finally received my acceptance today!! Tranfering as a junior into the department of Geological sciences Fall 2010. I will have my AA from a Florida CC at the end of summer. Current GPA 3.85 And SeanCris… you do have to have an AA to be accepted as a transfer to UF. It has been that way for at least 2 years now.

You don’t have to have an AA, just 60 credits or more. UF does accept junior-level university transfers with out associate’s degrees. See Fall 2009’s thread.

It won’t let me edit my last post, but it should be “there” instead of “their.” lol

That’s what I was told by an advisor, that CLAS decisions will be made for Fall and Summer B at the same time and that CLAS decisions will be issued beginning mid March and ending late April.
