Well we approached the weekend meaning 3 more days before we’ll hear more answers :/

Usually they post answers after office hours. Like I didn’t have a decision on Weds at 5:00, but around 9:00 I did. It takes time to post I think.

Hey,
I got into UF as a freshman but chose FSU for a scholarship. I am currently an FSU student and applying for the UF college of Communication & Journalism for Advertising. I am a Freshman but have 54 credits and plan on taking 3 classes over the summer (an economics class & both of the American history classes).

My current GPA is a 4.0 and I am in the Honors program. I heard it was extremely difficult to get in as a transfer if you are not transferring from a community college, I was wondering if I was going to be at a real disadvantage, what the chances of me getting in are, and when I should be finding out.

Thanks!

You are at a disadvantage. Only 10% of transfer applicants from Universities are accepted to UF to begin with, and most majors in the college of Journalism are “limited access” majors, but I am not sure if advertising is limited access. If you really want to get in to UF, do your best to avoid applying for a limited access major.

It’s also too late to apply for the fall 2010 term, the deadline for applications was March 1st. What term did you want to apply for?

Your GPA is really impressive though. You might have a legitimate shot at the Spring 2011 semester if you hadn’t applied for Fall 2010 by the deadline. You also have to make sure you’ve taken all of the prerequisite courses before applying, so call UF about that.

Good luck.

I already applied for the Fall 2010 deadline, and yes Advertising is limited access so I am hoping. I am missing 3 prerequisite classes that I plan to take over summer so I hope that isn’t a disadvantage as well Do you know when I should be finding out?

If you don’t have the prereqs, you MUST have provided UF with a transcript that proves that you are enrolled in those classes for the summer term and will have them completed before Fall 2010. If they don’t have that, they WILL reject your application. If you haven’t provided that, call your department’s secretary first thing in the morning on Monday and ask her to put a freeze on your application while you enroll in those classes and get the transcript sent in proving that you will complete them before Fall 2010. Once they recieve the transcript call her back and ask her to remove the freeze so that they can make a decision.

UF is serious about their prereqs. They will reject a 4.0 CC (priority) transfer without them. I had to deal with this last week, but luckily once it was dealt with they got back to me in a matter of hours with an acceptance.

They should be making decisions daily, and once they make their decision you will find out the same day on ISIS.

Seancris, I think I am going to call UF tomorrow and ask them to put a freeze on my application until I get my summer transcripts in as well. I just got the transient forms approved and will be making my schedule this week. Is that something I would call admissions about or my specific college ?

Keep in mind my situation was slightly different because I didn’t have to enroll in the prereq courses because my college has never offered those prereqs- I only had to have my application frozen until CLAS recieved a letter from my registrar confirming that my college didn’t offer the prereqs.

But to answer your question, you will have to call your specific college. For me, I called CLAS and spoke to the secretary. She was able to put the freeze on the application and recieve all of the paperwork personally. If you’re applying to CLAS and want some specific information, PM me because I know exactly who you need to talk to since I’ve been through it all before. :)

I just spoke to UF. They said that as long as you include in your application that you are planning to take those courses before admission it is fine. You do not have to send proof when applying from a state university into the Communications program.

Do decisions get posted at random times or should we expect them later in the week towards Friday at 5pm? I know they still might not come until mid-April but I check so much that I just want this to be over with!

Random times. I got mine last week around 8:00 PM Wednesday night.

Got the official acceptance letter today! It’s dated March 17th, so it takes about a week. I live around 150-200 miles away.

when did you hear? today? what college and major are you? congrats

Sounds like a freshman to me. Congrats regardless.

What to you guys think my chance are. I applied around 2 months ago. I will be graduating from an out of state community college with an AA. Im going for political science.
GPA:3.6
By the time i graduate i will have well over 60 credits
Also got into Phi Theta Kappa honor society.

we’re in identical situations, what state do you live in? I, too, am waiting except I’m an economics major.

I live in New York so it’s quite a distance from Florida, so i imagine it will take a while for me to hear back from them about by admission.

I know for the poli sci program it is extremely competitive. They also put a lot of weight on your “pre-professional” GPA. Those are four classes that you have to take to qualify. I do not know which four they are, but if you do not have an ‘A’ in those four classes, I wouldn’t hold my breath on getting in to that program, especially from out of state.

I’m from NJ so like I said we’re in similar scenarios. I have no idea if economics (CLAS) is a competitive major at UF or not. I’ve been trying to figure it out. I have a combined GPA of a 3.8 between my schools so I’m right on the border
