UF Accepted / Rejected / Waiting 2010 (Transfer)

Has anyone heard from the College of Fine Arts yet?

Has anyone that applied to CALS for fall '10 received a decision yet?

“yep, I’ve contacted them many times. They keep telling me my application is fine and that a decision has not been made yet.”

You’ll probably get a decision in the next two weeks. They’ve said from the beginning that decisions will continue coming out into late April. I don’t know how anyone can reasonably say that UF is “taking way too long” considering that we all knew from the beginning that it would take until April 30th for some people.

TBH when I applied I expected that I wouldn’t hear back until mid-May, just going off of what happened in last year’s thread. It’s only mid-April, guys. Decisions are coming out everyday and will continue to come out for the next three weeks.

On behalf of daughter (Coffeesteph)…Finally …Accepted!
College of Engineering- Civil Engineering, Fall term
4.0 pre-prof., 4.0 overall…finishing AA first week of May
She (and I ) were really getting tired of the wait, but the department said on the phone that decisions would be coming out this week, and she got the mail today. Best of luck to all those still waiting :)

…no one should be surprised that UF hasn’t gotten back to them by now. Everyone knew – long before you applied, if you had done your homework – that UF would take AT LEAST until April 30th, and in some cases even longer to get back to transfers with decisions. Admissions officers have told us this repeatedly, and if you checked last year’s thread you would see that it was May 15th until some transfers heard back…

If it stresses you out that much just to face facts about when decisions should be expected to come out, wait until midterms next semester. You won’t make it to thanksgiving unless you can start handling yourself like an adult.

oh please, don’t talk like you know us personally on here. I can handle myself just fine, and very much like an adult. And aside from UF taking a long time to get back on a decision (April 30th is a long time regardless of whether they say it or not, especially since I applied in August), I’ve decided that UM is a better decision for me than UF. Not only will I succeed, I’m sure I’ll come out on top.

Good luck to everyone.

After lurking around other forums I found out they usually post decisions around 8-9 PM (EST). I am still anxiously waiting to hear back from the CALS but instead of checking my status every hour of the day (haha) I just check it around this time frame now. Definitely takes some stress off…

applied in nov just found out today accepted for chemical engineering …gpa 3.78
good thing already bought a house down there :)

accepted!

CLAS English
Transfer from FL comm. college
3.2 GPA
My letter put me over, im certain

btw, it says on the site that updates occur at 5:30 AM

where does it say that?

i attempted to sign up for transfer orientation as soon as i saw i was admitted, and it said i hadnt been admitted yet, and that uf records are updated daily at 530AM. also, i checked my status before bed tuesday night, and no acceptance, then checked around noon wednesday and Congratulations!!!, and thursday morning i was able to sigh up for orientation, so im pretty sure its 530AM

The last couple weeks I have been thinking and decided that I really want to switch my major to journalism. I originally applied as a Family Youth and Community Sciences major (part of CALS) because the classes sounded interesting and I met all the requirements, but career-wise I am having second thoughts about it.

I haven’t received a decision from CALS yet but I think I have a pretty good shot at getting in.

Should I call Admissions on Monday and ask them to switch the major on my application to journalism? Or should I wait to become accepted first and then go talk to them about switching majors?

I am just afraid that it is too late in the game because they may have already filled in all the open seats for Journalism and if I try applying there I may be rejected from UF all together. But I am also worried to wait to go talk to them because I heard they frown upon transfer students switching their majors.

Thanks for any advice.

(BTW I have a 3.3 GPA and meet all of the journalism prerequisites–except one class, but I can take that this summer)

I would imagine it’s too late… not only would it be switching your major but you’d also have to apply to another college all together because CALS doesn’t offer that major.

and i think when you are a transfer, you are committed to the major you choose. im pretty sure i remember some fine print about having to graduate within 4 semesters and with the degree you originally chose. just in case, if the application date hasnt past, i would change it now if you really want to. then again, you could just minor in journalism.

@UForFSU I had a similar issue a couple of weeks ago where I wanted to change my major, and I called and the advisor told me that basically because it is past the deadline that they are not allowed to change anything on the applications or change majors (I think they can only add/change courses in progress) but the advisor was nice enough and she changed it for me and had my application resent to the college for consideration/review (althought my majors were in the same college).

You can call and see what they can do for you (which I highly advise), but at this point it just might be a little too late, but definitely call to know for sure.

They are very strict about the changing majors thing, and they do say that once you have been accepted into a major you are going to graduate with that major unless you can really give them a solid reason with proof that you will graduate on time… etc etc, but it rarely happens from what I am told. They may tell you to just reapply for the next semester with your new chosen major but that may not be what you want.

hope i helped!

Ok, thanks for the help guys.

I went ahead and laid out a schedule of what classes I can take in order to graduate in four semesters. It turns out I have pretty much all of the general ed classes so each semester only consists of 12-15 credit hours, and that is with a minor in history. Also I looked on ISIS today and the classes I want to take this Fall for journalism still have dozens of open seats left and can be taken by any UF student regardless of what college they are in.

So on Tuesday I am going to go to the College of Journalism, show them my semester plan, and ask him if there is any chance I can switch. I am hoping worst case scenario they will tell me that they are not accepting any more transfers but I can just stay at CALS and just take the journalism courses in order to stay on track and then just apply for the college in Spring.

Hopefully it works out. Thanks again.

applying to UF once this semester is done.

Santa Fe CC
AA in Business Administration
3.85 GPA
3.92 pre professional GPA
63 credits

deadlines June 1st for Business, pretty excited to get this over with

I wouldn’t wait until the semester is over, I would just go ahead and apply right away.
For those still waiting, I received my admission decision for CLAS in early April. I think it has alot to do with the individual major. They told me that CLAS decisions can happen as late as mid-May. Good luck to everyone.

UForFSU, I had a similar problem and when I contacted the school about it, they told me that once you are admitted to a major you have to take a certain number of classes for the major. I am not sure how UF works, but that was FSU’s policy. I ended up staying at the community college level for another year until I had satisfied all the requirements.

Accepted!!

I checked my status at around 8pm-- still said my app was referred to my college, but then about 11pm, I thought “why not?” and then I saw “Congratulations!!!”

Now it comes down to what school I should go to. Should I pursue a degree in Information Technology at FSU? or should I go to UF to major in Journlism. I enjoy both equally, it just boils down to which would I have better opportunities with.

Sorry to keep asking you guys for advice but I really appreciate it.

Congrats UForFSU! You applied to CALS for fall right? It’d be comforting for me to know they’re at least in the process of reviewing applications for fall.
