Why does UF say you need a minimum of a 19 on the math and reading portion of the ACT but only accepts people with very high overall ACT composite scores??? do they ever actually admitted someone just based on the math and reading portion or what’s the point
UF (or the State of Florida) has to set a minimum test score, since it’s a requirement for admissions.
UF uses holistic admissions, so it does select a wide range of test scores. Admissions also put’s more importance on GPA and class rigor (“very important”) than test scores. The middle 50% of accepted students ACT is about in the 27 to 31 range. However, 3% of enrolled freshman had an ACT composite score in the 18 to 23 range, 7.6% in the 18-23 range for English and 7.3% in the 18-23 range for Math.
Students that get accepted with such low test scores, usually have other factors (UF uses holistic admissions) that helped to compensate for such low test scores. Recruited athletes, high GPA, exceptional extracurricular activities, first generation, unique talents, etc.
Even a 5 star Football player, has to met the minimum requirements.
