Will I get into UF or UF PaCE? (my stats are really low but I’ll explain.)
I have a 2.9 unweighted and 3.4 weighted GPA. My SAT score is a 1060.
But for extracurriculars, I was HEAVILY involved in 8+ activities. won the history fair, captain, MVP, and rookie of the year for lacrosse, assistant manager and social media coordinator for Cutco Cutlery, selling over $10k my first 10 days on the job, social media coordinator and legal secretary for a law firm, did study abroad in France last year (and wrote a KILLER essay about my experience and the struggles I overcame entering a country in which i didnt know the language or anyone there) as well as started a tutoring club at my school in France, CO-founder and historian of the astronomy club, publicist of the French Honor Society, vice president of the Hope at Hand club, volunteer for I Am Special Camp, practices and teaches martial arts to students of all ages. (I’m really hoping this stuff will help me out because of their holistic approach).
Also for additional info, none of my credits transferred over from France so i am currently retaking my junior year and senior year online simultaneously to graduate on time. It sucks but I think that shows I have a lot of will and grit.
I know essay is a big part and like I said, I think it’s pretty good.
Also my father went to UF and I think the legacy helps out a bit.
I took all honors and two AP classes when i was still at my regular school and online, all of my classes are honors.
I know my scores are horrible though but I’ve heard of people getting in with worse because of other factors so do i have a chance?
Well, it looks like you have had a challenging but also interesting high school career. However, being honest (which is what you want, right?), I would say that your chances with UF (and most other 4-year state universities in Florida are very slim. The average GPA of UF admits last year was 4.4 – using the UF recalculated GPA formula. My guess is that your’s is likely around 3.2. The average SAT score was 1360 or so. And all of the kids who were admitted also had plenty of extracurriculars and volunteerism on their applications. Being a legacy helps a tiny bit but many qualified children of alumni get rejected each year. I think you should focus on schools like Florida Gulf Coast, FAU or University of West Florida. If you really want UF, then perhaps consider attending Santa Fe and putting up some good numbers in order to transfer in to UF as a junior. Good luck.
Yes I will definitely be at Santa Fe because I figured I had no chance at UF. I just really wanna go straight in instead of transferring. Also, do you have an idea of what I’d have to get my SAT score up to in order to have a chance at appealing the admissions decision and having them reconsider? I know that’s very slim too but I’m persistent and it’s worth a shot.
I am a current UF student and I have multiple friends who attend Santa Fe. It is definitely a fantastic option if you wish to be a part of the UF community without necessarily going to UF. Santa Fe students practically have a direct path to UF after acquiring about 60 credit hours (if they wish to transfer in) so if you really would like to be a Gator one day I’d 100% recommend Santa Fe. UF is quite strange with admissions, your academic stats are quite weak for UF admission but your ECs are quite great! Anything can happen and at the end of the day if you really would like to be a Gator, you can through Santa Fe. If youre interested in joining organizations at UF you can (for most) as long as you dual enroll in some online classes that UF offers while attending Santa Fe (more proof that you dont necessarily need to go to UF to be a part of Gator culture). Good luck!
Thank you so much!
