Lol, I guess. I think most of the candidates selected were well-qualified despite the holistic evaluations. UF hasn’t lowered standards by holistic admission. Though it is kind of disappointing to the OP in a way…however, those are solid programs! Best of luck. x

Yep, I knew it! I am well qualified! lol lol hahahha however, i hope to get the most rewarding education from them. GO GATORS!!!

“UF hasn’t lowered standards by holistic admission.”

haha you had me there for a second…wait, you were being serious. …

If UF went race blind on their application you would see an increase of test scores, GPA, and well qualified students, just a decline in diversity.

Holistic admissions is a joke.

They ARE really looking into diversity because almost all the “Americans (born here)” from my school that applied UF were rejected while almost all the Hispanics were accepted. And those that were rejected are brilliant students. and btw the holistic admissions is NOT a joke, I have seen univ that are a lot more horrible and stupid than UF (which is in my opinion one of the best and is also hard to enter) like FIU and they just look at SAT and GPA, not even ECs or essays! I was deferred for that one and UF -which is better- admitted me! they look in depth the applicant.

yeah, straight up rejection. No consideration for other terms at all.
Seeing as how I had a 33 act and 3.96w gpa and work 20 hours per week, I’m just shocked.
Not really disappointed though.

@ Post 24

That’s exactly why it can be considered a joke in some aspects. Flat out rejections of people who are more qualified and probably have better essays than others who were accepted is just a tad bit ridiculous. One girl out of our entire IB senior class got rejected and she was in the top 10%, 4.3 UF GPA, and “decent” (as in better than most people at my school) SAT scores of 1200/1790, but she was Indian.

As a student who was accepted to UF last and on a full ride scholarship to an out-of-state school, I can say that MORE PRESTIGIOUS schools practice one form or another of holistic admissions…

Give me a list of schools – public and private – that UF wants to compete with and I can assure you they all do similar types of Admissions:

UVA? Check
William & Mary? Check
UNC? Check
Emory? Check
Georgia Tech? Check
Wake Forest? Check
UGA? Check
Duke? Check

… The list goes on. Clearly, all these schools remain prestigious and can still attract bright kids from all types of background while keeping their SAT/GPA/Top 10% pretty high. UF can too, it’s no excuse nor is even unique to UF.

Ed, if you care enough you can call and talk to them. I read on here on another post that someone called and then got accepted shortly after. Don’t know if that will help you but you could certainly try, or just apply again for another term.

“all the Americans (born here) from my school that applied UF were rejected while almost all the Hispanics were accepted. And those that were rejected are brilliant students.”

This just furthers my point. That’s fine. If I do attend UF, I’ll be happy to be competing against a less qualified demographic who got accepted due to the pigmentation of their epidermis.

Well, I am not afraid either of competing against white ones that still have their minds in the 19th century. and i forgot something, I love to fight for what I want no matter what other “white” people think!

I wouldn’t say that Hispanic kids have an edge at UF. Since there are many, many Florida residents that are Hispanic (almost everyone in Miami is) they do not exactly have to fill up a quota since so many apply.

well, tell that to the stupid racist that we have in CC in post 29

I think that we can all agree that we have to fight. For our right. To party.

So I’m racist because I think applicants should be evaluated without considering the color of their skin?

I didn’t know advocating race blind admissions and equality constituted racism.

and who the hell said that admissions is considering the color of the skin! you are obviously so lost! the people that are admitted, ARE admitted because their merits! i hope not to see you in UF, that’s you opinion and this is mine this is a free country and I respect yours, however fyi yes! for ME you are racist.

I’m not against affirmative action, but to say they don’t pay attention to people’s race is extremely naive. If they didn’t care, why would the school even ask then?

Yes Tno, but the reason for that is to ensure that a school isn’t composed of 100% of a specific ethnic group. The extent in which it influences a decision isn’t great. If someone isn’t qualified, then they won’t be admitted.

UF really does have an extremely large amount of qualified applicants these days so it’s impossible for them to accommodate all of them. Just because someone was rejected doesn’t mean their application had any flaws at all. Space was, and will be a large issue for universities all across America.

Edit: Also, to Edson, I’m sorry to hear you weren’t accepted. You still do have many other great options. :)
