So I found out I was rejected from UF, but I have been accepted to USF honors, FSU honors, UCF honors and New College of Florida.
How does that happen?

D also accepted to New College and rejected from UF. Didn’t apply to the others.

Because UF is the hardest to get into. But you’ve got a great variety of alternatives, especially FSU Honors and NCF. Have you made campus visits?

I visited all but ucf.
Im leaning towards USF or New college because I live in the tampa bay area

Student population 40,000 vs. 1000. It should be easy enough to choose between those vastly different schools. Are you planning to live at home?

If I choose USF I’ll live at home, otherwise I’ll stay on campus.

heyaa. I just wanted to find out some info about UF and USF. So i got into both, USF Honors college plus scholarship and UF, just the norm stream. So obviously, USF is really appealing at the moment, but I’d like to hear your thoughts on which is better academically and recognised more? Also, which has nicer housing? I hear USF has a new Juniper-poplar building or smth? I’m an intl student so i cant visit the campuses before deciding either.

Thanks!

The housing at USF is so much nicer than the housing at UF, there’s no comparison really.

Without question, UF has a much better reputation academically. Do some research and look at the average SAT scores of incoming freshmen. USF has made huge strides in the last decade or so but there is no comparison if you are talking academic reputation. USF is building nice new dorms in an attempt to overcome its ‘comuter college’ past, and there are lots of nearby apartment complexes built especially for the student population. Parking is horrid on both campuses. What is your intended major?

USF is a great school, and it is definitely rising in the ranks, but UF is really top notch in Florida. If you get accepted, you should definitely go. Very different schools as well, like with campus life and what not. But if its just academics, then UF wins I’d say.

Getting into the Honors College at FSU is easier than getting into UF non-honors.

More so for the other regional schools you listed.

USF is one of the three top research schools in Florida so it really depends on your major and what you are planning to do with your college experience. Alot of the classes at UF are very over crowded and are weed out classes. If you live in Tampa and it is easier for you to go to USF I truly believe you won’t get a “lacking” education.

Thank you guys for your comments… really appreciate it. I’m wonderign if USF wld be a better choice financially as I intend to go to grad school as well, but unlikely in usf itself. Perhaps the money “saved” thx to the scholarship can be channelled toward grad sch right. Also, for undergrad i’m intedning to makor either in politics or economics… how does USF rank for that?

For political science FSU has the best program in the state.

Don’t feel bad, edson92.

Last year, someone got rejected by UF but got accepted into Yale.

They just flat out rejected you? Didn’t offer you summer or spring term? Two of my friends, one ranked 1st in class and one ranked 3rd got in for spring term with a 22 ACT. My other friend with a 3.8 GPA and a 23 ACT got in for summer. I don’t understand how they just reject some people with high stats flat out while offering others another term with lower stats.

joefrommiami- Really? Then UF must have thought the kid used UF as his safety, would get into a more amazing college, and kick UF to the curb. Colleges do reject overqualified students who seem like they’ll be admitted elsewhere.

I can’t believe that I am saying this but, the kids at my school that considered UF as safety are right now AMUSED! no one got in! just the ones with low chances got UF, kids very intelligent and involved were like “wt__F?” sorry!

Yeah, admissions did seem kind of arbitrary number wise.
I was in the ACT range [upper 75%-ile] and had a variety of solid volunteer projects that I’ve coordinated. Also, my essay was pretty good. Seemed more of a holistic process in admission this time around.

Exactly, COMPLETELY HOLISTIC! i would say too much holistic! hahahha
