Hello. I'm an Mech. Eng., at a Florida college, interested in transferring to UF in the near future but I have a few questions regarding transferring and the required prerequisites.

UF's Department of Engineering has a website that provides a chart with a list of the required prerequisites needed to successfully transfer. I have provided a link to the page down below just in case.

One of my questions is that, in one of the websites bullet-points, it states, Completion of at least 6 of the 8 critical tracking courses at the time of application with a minimum 2.5 critical tracking GPA. What are the 8 critical tracking courses that are being discussed? Are all of the chemistry and chemistry lab classes listed part of those 8 critical tracking courses?

In another topic, I have heard of transfer students (including other engineering majors) who have been admitted to UF and have later been notified that the university has repealed their original admission and will no longer be allowed to attend UF because they were scheduled to take summer classes (I have also heard the same for people who are applying as a transfer student and have been rejected because they were scheduled to take classes during the summer prior to transferring). Why is this?

Transfer Requirements » Engineering Student Affairs » College of Engineering

In general, the 8 classes are Calc 1, 2, 3, Diff Equations (the 4 math classes), Phy 1 and 2 (with labs) and Chm 1 and 2 (with labs).

Based on your major the Chm 2 class is (or may) be replaced with another class.

For Mechanical engineering you may substitute BSC2010(Bio 1) or PHY3101 for CHM 2. Lab is not required.

One of the transfer students may better answer your question, but what I think happened is that UF (engineering) has a March 1 deadline for Fall enrollment. At that point, they should have completed 6 classes and be taking the other 2 (in the spring term). If they plan on taking one of the critical tracking course over the summer, then it’s too late and they will be repealed.

In other words, if you plan on taking one of the tracking course over the summer, you need to apply for the Spring term and not the Fall.

So I’m guessing the CHM 1045 and CHM 1045 L I took doesn’t satisfy the chemistry requirement for UF?

I checked my school’s catalog of classes and neither CHM 2045 nor CHM 2046 can be found. I even selected the “All Times” and “All Campuses” option and nothing.

Makes me wonder if tgese classes are even offered by my school (I go to MDC).

Check with Admissions (as they could make an exception), but CHM 1045/46 may match up to CHM 2045/46.

It’s happening to me, UF requires for my major (Political Science) a class that is not offered at my college, so that’s why I think they might require you to take the class with them (in the summer) My friend he was admitted at FIU missing one prereq, they allowed him to take the class, along with other classes of his major.
