UF Essay Character vs. Word Count

I'm writing my University of Florida essay and they ask for a 400-500 word essay. However, the essay is written in a text box. The text box allows you to write up to 3,885 characters. My essay is at 496 words but I still have 1,177 characters left. I still have to add to it. Should I keep going until the characters cut off or should I cut down cause of the word limit?

I think the box will stop allowing you to type when you’re out of characters. I tried to paste my draft essay in to see what happened. I don’t think your essay will be cut off unless you hit that limit.

But would they frown upon an essay that’s say, 100 or 200 words over the limit, even though it fits in the text box?

bump, can anyone help?
