I was accepted to UF the day decision came out for applicants that applied by November 1 and I have a question about housing. I sent my $25 non-refundable fee in yesterday and was just wondering how long it takes to get a housing contract after I sent my $25. I was also wondering if there’s a likely chance that there is room in the Broward residence hall as that is my preferred choice to dorm at right now. Also after I get my housing contract would I be able to pick where I stay? Im a little confused on all of this. I submitted my housing fee late as it kinda just went over my head but hopefully broward has room left. Any input would be much appreciated, thank you!
Once admitted, you should have access to your housing contract shortly after submitting your application with the $25 deposit. It’s not a drawn out process. The date you paid the deposit sets your place in line to select housing. Applications and deposits have been accepted since mid-September, so prepare yourself for the possibility of limited options. Since you applied for housing after February 12th, you most likely will not be able to pick where you stay. So, it’s very important that once you have access to your contract, to follow the instructions and make sure you select a large variety of housing preferences prior to the May 1st deadline, so that the staff has the best possible information to place you. You must also pay the advance rent payment before May 1st. Room selection will probably begin on May 18th. Broward is a popular dorm that fills up quickly, so put it at the top of your list and good luck!
@CollegeFever13 thank you for the response. would applying for a triple room help my chances at broward? has applying this late for rooming took every chance out of getting a spot at broward?
Broward Hall is the Living Learning Community for the Out of Stater Gator - which I’m sure you know by now, and priority is given to OOS - which I assume you are. When you get your contract, make sure to select this LLC as your first preference, to increase your chances. Also, under preferences, you can select a certain type of room within a building BUT you can also just select the building. Make Broward your first selection, without specifying a room. That will add a preference for Broward with a room type = ANY. So, your best possible chance of getting into Broward is to add the Out of Stater Gator LLC and a building-only preference of Broward as your top choices. Another great idea is that you will be sent a link to RoomSync, which is a matching application for potential future roommates. You will have to cultivate relationships but if Broward is that important to you, you can network with other out of staters interested in Broward and maybe get lucky enough to find a match that has an earlier application date than you. Make that person the group leader of your two or three person group and add the group to each of your preference pages. In one area of the preference page, you will see LLCs, Groups, and Non-LLC preferences (area/building/room selections) - so it is easy to manage and see everything in one place. That’s probably the extent of what I know. Don’t hesitate to contact UF Housing for more tips and tricks! Good luck!
@CollegeFever13 I appreciate your help greatly! thank you, you cleared it up a lot for me hopefully I can still get broward
