uf, fsu, ucf, or usf ???

I accept your apology queenb318. I understand USF does have a bad reputation about its location, I just dispute whether or not its truly warranted. When I got off of I-75 the area seemed relatively nice driving west until right after USF, then it goes downhill fast. When I went there the first time I had a bad impression of it, but a much more positive one the second time. I’m moving there in 3 weeks so hopefully it won’t be worse than I expect…

Anyhow, good luck with the other schools. I’ve never visited UCF, but I know FSU is a nice.

mom2collegekids- I’m sorry, I didn’t correctly state that. COMPARED to UF and FSU, UCF is a new and establishing university.

Also, a single test score cannot determine how well a student will do compared to his/her peers. Like I said, the ACT is something you can study for. If several months of studying can bring a student’s score up miraculously, don’t you think it’s a little foolish to make judgments based on that single score? I know of a valedictorian that has only a 24 ACT, but does very well when it comes to working in a classroom setting. Does that mean she won’t do well in a prestigious college? Definitely not. Of course this is only my opinion, and you are free to think whatever you want.

This is at least 200 pts. above certain SUNYs…

Tom, this is a discussion board. Simply because IG doesn’t like UF (or FSU or public universities in general for that matter) doesn’t make him a “■■■■■”. He is biased, wrong and ill-informed in my opinion, but not a ■■■■■.

This is not why I think UF isn’t an “elite” school. I am just calling it as I see it.

The board “zealots” may have encouraged me to express my thoughts though.

So you admit that Florida public schools are not elite…

I never said that Florida schools are “elite”. I don’t think anyone was. Elite schools tend to be in the Top 20 rankings.

However, not having an “elite” label does not mean that a school isn’t a very good school. The Florida publics are very worthwhile schools.

I’m hoping that the New Year brings you some happiness.

That’s not nice. Gators are people too…

Thanks, you too. You get to spend 3 extra days with your kid, don’t you?

^^^

Yes, and since he’s recovering from surgery, it’s a blessing. :)

^ Sorry, I didn’t know. Hope he feels better! :)

Conference realignment could effect the balance of the schools in the next year or two if UCF moves to the Big East or USF loses its spot in an AQ conference.

UCF seems to be ahead of USF (and the margin is getting bigger each year).

USWNR puts UF at #47, tied with Texas and Penn State. That is by no way elite but it is still pretty good.

In what respect? Their engineering program might be ahead of ours, but I think we’ve got them beat in most other areas.

quote=rogracerintguy slammed FSU pretty hard…and, in fact, the entire public higher education system in Forida [sic]. And in [sic] indirectly, about 40+ other states that don’t have a public system that is as good.

[/quote]

You just (indirectly) “slammed” the public higher education system in 40+ other states…

^Thanks for pointing out my typos. BTW, I’m not a grad of any publics schools. Even us MIT grads can make mistakes :)

Don’t worry, your Harvard bosses are probably very forgiving… ;)

Just kidding! With few exceptions, I have the deepest respect for MIT (and Caltech) grads.

That said, you do have family ties to the University of Florida. So you’re hardly without bias…

How could anyone insult olfactory blessings at MIT? :D
