I’m trying to figure out and/or find out if there is any data on what percentage of kids put down the non-refundable housing fee either at the time of application or prior to acceptance.
Anyone know?
Did you put it down early or at acceptance? Were you fairly confident or was UF a reach?
I put mine down right after I got the e-mail, an hour at most. That was December 14th. It was very much a reach for me but I didn’t want to risk anything. I’m in IA though so it shouldn’t affect anyone.
Application sent Nov 1. $25 housing deposit sent Nov 2. Not a reach but not overly confident either. Paid $250 housing deposit for UCF just in case, so UF’s deposit seemed nominal. Other moms in the neighbor strongly urged me to go ahead and pay as it reserves your spot in the housing que for all four years.
We paid the $25 deposit, for both kids in late September, because we wanted to a higher priority when it was time to pick dorm rooms. However, it didn’t really matter for either, since they had roommates with even earlier dates who “pulled” them into the door room.
We paid the “Housing Advance Rent Payment” ($225) not long after getting accepted and long before the deadline.
We paid the $25 Oct 9th a few days after applying. I will be putting down the housing contract deposit tomorrow as soon as we get it even though my son has not committed…but 90% sure he will
I felt my son had a good shot at UF but The Florida Universities are fickle with their acceptances and we are OOS. I put the deposit down for my older son, as well, 3 years ago and he was not accepted-he attends FSU
@gatormom18 My S attends UF and is a junior. I put the deposit down later ( after his acceptance) and he still ended up getting his first choice dorm (Rawlings). So just wanted to let you know it is possible to have everything work out even if you were on the late end. It probably depends on what dorm she wants.
